Finally someone who does both sides. No difference but other KZbinrs were just being lazy about showing both sides. Thanks.

Have you ever noticed a slight .030 play in and out on ford f 150 axles. I never noticed it before in my truck, but now I have a clunk clunk noise backing up, and have traced it to the rear end axles. With E brake off, I can shake the truck from the tire and hear knock knock, clunk clunk. Some say this is normal. After performing your great video and axle install have you noticed slight in and out play? Is it because of the c clips? In my world of airplanes, we don’t like play in things that move or hold weight. Truck is a 2017 F 150 with limited slip 9.75” rear end. 25,000 miles. Thanks for the help.
@TheOriginalMechanic2 жыл бұрын
I have not noticed play like that. With those kind of miles it seems unlikely a bearing would be going already or the clips would be worn. I wouldn't like it either and it would likely drive me to distraction. Nothing really leaps to mind at this point...

My truck has had a whining sound since I bought it used with 230,000 miles on it. Now 20,000 miles later the rear wheels are loose - in and out- movement by over 1/2 inch. Both sides. So, it looks like I will be dismantling to see what is worn out.

Question, 99 Ford f150 right side axle has alot of in and out play, clip fell out before and looks like it's close to falling out again, any ideas why it's doing this, bearing and seal is new?
@TheOriginalMechanic3 жыл бұрын
You must have some wear on the axle or even the differential.
@poolman82013 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I got something going on. Axle looks good, i pulled the c clip out put it in a vice and bent it a little bit , shouldn't fall out now. Thanks for the response. 👍

Are the spider gears something that could easily fall out once the pin is removed?
@TheOriginalMechanic3 жыл бұрын
So I've been told. It never happened to me but it is definitely a possibility.
@GriffinsFanChris3 жыл бұрын
@@TheOriginalMechanic I'm in the process of doing this right now. The spider gears seem to be in there pretty good. Im going to put the pin back in while I do the seals and bearings though.

@GriffinsFanChris3 жыл бұрын
@@jean-pierrehall2914 Yes, it worked good. Got the job done!
@jeffreyallen37773 жыл бұрын
Yes, if you rotate too much and the spiders move too far toward the open side of the diff there will be nothing to hold them in place. It is not the end of the world but there are probably shims that will come out with it and it's a little bit of a trick to get them back in at the correct rotation point. I accidently kicked a wheel when I had mine apart and it rotated enough for one to fall out.It's best to be very carefull and avoid this happening especially if it's on a lift as the long drop may damage the spider.

You don't actually have to take the tire and wheel off You just have to do the differential stuff in there get the little c clip out of there It pulled the whole axle off outside the axle out with the wheel hooked up to it still unless you just want to take the wheel off
@TheOriginalMechanic Жыл бұрын
Yeah you're right. I had the wheel off first to look at brakes and then to replace a rear bearing.
@jesusgutierrez1446 Жыл бұрын
I don’t believe the rotor would allow that to happen. 🤔
@Afrattzz1 Жыл бұрын
The caliper wouldn’t allow that and if the drums need to be backed off. Besides, it’s a lot easier and less cumbersome to just take the wheel off. I’ve never left the wheels on.
@garyr70277 ай бұрын
That will work if it's drum breaks but then why do it that way with all that weight on one end of the axel?

@jerrycarter1928 Жыл бұрын
not sure you had the right gear oil, for my 02 F150 the right fluid is 75-140 full synthetic. Also, make sure you have the antislip additive if you have anti slip diff. If you are not sure, add it as it does no harm if you don't and if you have an antislip diff, you are covered. I didn't see if you used RTV or a gasket at the end, nor did I see you clean the diff from the previous sealing method. I think it is worth mentioning what you did so new folks don't get this step wrong and end up with a leak. Thanks for taking the time to make the video
@TheOriginalMechanic Жыл бұрын
I used my owners manual for the oil choice. If there was an update I guess I missed it. Thanks for sharing the useful details.

Does no one ever replace the bearings on the dang passenger side? Its ALWAYS the drivers side in every single one of these videos.
@TheOriginalMechanic2 жыл бұрын
Of course I changed them both. I did the passenger side first and decided the video clips were better on the driver's side. Luckily for those viewers who want the passenger side, the procedure is the same.
@dutchmccutch6152 жыл бұрын
Yeah im sorry i didnt know it was the same process of taken em off on both sides. I dont mean to sound dumb ive never taken the axles out before i guess it was just a coincidence i watched like 5 videos and everyone was only taking the driver side axle off i was like well how the heck do ya take the other dang axle off!? Haha my bad man i see now its the same way on both sides. I am replacing my rear wheel bearings tommorow on my truck i have been watching alot of videos to make sure i know what im doin when i go to do it.. Ive replaced the rear wheel bearings on my fourwheeler before but that was a tad bit different. I never have had too on my truck until now. Thanks for the video tho it was very well explained. If you said you do the same on the other side im sorry for not catching that. God bless ya sir!
