Wish I seen this video a few days ago. I just finished hot potatoing a torson T-2r in my s197 ( re used the factory 3.55 ) and OH BOY. It’s concerningly LOUD. I do have spherical diff case bearings. And Polly as well as gutted interior but it sounds like 2 bricks 🧱 rubbing together on accel. 😂. I have a race tomorrow and I’m gonna run it as is and hope it stays together for the event And so I can still drive it home afterwards. Makes me nervous though. Definitely going to be cracking it back open if I make it home re recheck all my work. I did make sure my back lash was correct befor sealing the diff but I have a hunch maybe the carrier preload maybe a bit loose. But I could be wrong and it’s just how the characteristics of torson t2r is with the suspension set up I have but idk. 🤷🏻♂️ hard to find advice from others that have taken the path I have. Doesn’t seem like a common choice for most so definitely feel like I’m on my own

Okay so I haven't watched the entire video, but I'm working on it. If my question is answered later on, cool but I'm gonna ask anyways. How much shim is too much? I get the whole process of setting backlash, but how many shims is too much? If you don't use enough shims won't the carrier move back and forth freely? How much play back and forth is okay? I don't know if a comment on KZbin is going to encompass what I'm trying to ask, but please please let me know if you have an answer. I'm very confused

Alright so update... I slightly get it. If there are too many shims, the carrier will be way too hard to install. Soooo, kind of makes sense. I'm still wondering tho. Is there a maximum and minimum of the "total shim thickness"? What i mean is all of them put together. Is it different in every housing??? You say to add 6 tho• to each side after lash is achieved. Are you saying you should just have to slightly hammer in both the 6 tho• shims in but it is just snug without them?

Can super 8.8 ring and pinion be installed into a regular 8.8 rear end from a crown Victoria ?

Probably the best instructional I’ve seen on this topic. Still don’t think I want to get into this 😂 more than capable mechanically just too much trial and error for me to attempt

You got it man! I consider myself mechanically inclined and capable. I did it for the first time ever last month. Just take your time! Once you have hands on and go for it, it isn’t so bad. Just ensure you have a “set up bearing” for the pinon. This set up bearing will ultimately not be used in the end, but will alleviate pressing bearing on/off

Can i use this video and info for the obs ford truck 8.8 i want to regear my 1993 ford f150 but dont know if its all the same or not thank you 😅

If you're talking the rear, yes you can! This process covers 1982-2012 F-150s with an 8.8" so you're good to go. If you're wondering about 4WD, the front axle is a completely different process.

my Mustang come with the 2 solid differential shims it's only to shims on each side. Can I replace them with the shims it came with the kit, it has a whole bunch of them in there, or do I need to get the original shims from a dealer?
@steedaautosports6 ай бұрын
You can replace the original shims if you have a size that works for you. The original shims are a baseline to help you find the correct sizing if you have a new set. For this video we did not have the originals, so we had to guess on an initial measurement and go from there.
