Hello. I have cape cod. Has no soffit vents or gable vents. Built 1947. All brick. It sits long ways directly on north and other south side. North side gets virtually no sun. South side , lots of sun. 10 years ago when we moved in, had new roof. Roofers put on a ridgevent!! Now we have moisture condensation Northside. I've been trying to figure things out. Roofers put in a smartvent (Northside). Insulators took out old insulation. Blew in cellulose. I also noticed they didn't vapor barrier the floor joists. It's a finished attic with kneewalls. Kneewalls insulated.. Still frost and condensation. From what I'm thinking. Should the ridgevent and smartvent be closed off ? And go back to a "closed" non-vented system? Thanks

Need to introduce air somehow. Possibly peak vents. When it comes time to do the roof consider adding 4 to 6" overhangs and foam insulation from top side.

I need some advice. My house has ridge vents. I want to install a gable mount attic fan. I understand that when an attic fan is installed, that you need to close up any ridge vents so that the air is pulled in from the eaves only. So what is the proper way to close them up?

We sometimes remove old and cap with thick aluminum formed in a brake and ridge cap over. Cheep way out if you can get into attic and reach, packbthe opening with insulation and leave cap on.
