Although john didn't say, I believe the key factors to removing these pins where the use of his pneumatic impact the lubricant that he used for 2 days previously. John would you mind commenting on these two points? Thanks and I always enjoy your videos. Keep up the great work! 👍

Using penetration oil and allowing it time to do it's work, helps a lot. If I am doing work on an older vehicle, I sometimes bring it in a day ahead of time and spray the bolts I will be removing with penetrating oil. The other key thing was the air hammer, you need to hit both sides of the broken shear pin, short hits and use oil when doing this. The tip of the air hammers punch needs to be flat, do not use the pointed end or you will mushroom the end and make it harder to come out. The biggest thing to help remove stuck/seized anything is to have patience and a good attitude, it is a game and I like to win, (I will say, I win in my head when it comes out)

Awesome repair John! I have the 3X blower 30HD..... Thank goodness I haven't had that problem. If I do, I'm going straight to my burp gun and WD thanks to your video. I just ordered a 2 way Chute Control control assembly for mine. It was jammed for some reason, couldn't find anything obvious. Now I'm looking for a service manual in regards to proper steps for the assembly removal/installation along with the cable plate adapter at the chute. So far, no luck finding one...... Thanks again for your video, I learned something today!! 😊👍

Thanks for watching, If I every get one with a chute control problem, I will post the repair. Check out the manufacturer's website for a manual or look at the the parts breakdown on the website, the breakdown can give a lot of info on how it is put together.

Shear pins are my recurring nightmare. They break constantly on my Ariens and I don't know why. Everything is well greased, I cleared my driveway of sticks and stones, and 30 seconds in I broke two pins! Why? I have a hard time replacing them because I can't see well enough to line up the pin with the hole. Is there any easier way to line it up, like some marking somewhere that I don't know about? Thanks.
@FRUGALWITHJOHN
@FRUGALWITHJOHN 9 ай бұрын
I would say choose a lower gear, I know somebody who breaks the pins all the time also, because he tries going too fast through the snow. There is no easier way to line up the pin, a cheap pair of reading glasses may help, I need to use them all the time.
@61hink
@61hink 9 ай бұрын
@@FRUGALWITHJOHN Thanks. I was using the lowest gear lol. It took me about 45 minutes to change two pins, but after that it worked well. Of course I had to clear all the snow out of the impeller, then the grease on the axle obscured my view of where the holes lined up with the broken pins. I wish some company could come up with a better way. Thanks again for answering.
@l337pwnage
@l337pwnage 8 ай бұрын
Are they giving you the correct pins? They shouldn't be breaking that easy. Every blower is different, but on Ariens you tighten them until they just touch the auger tube, and back off a touch so you can rotate them in the hole by hand. Too tight or too loose will effect how they work.

- Don't have Fancy air gun Hammer 🔨 - I do have a good drill. So I tried and tried. Broke the bit 😡 Finally took a heavy duty Screw driver and heavy 🔨 Three four hits, son of gun was out. Btw I did clear area using carbonator cleaner and used a silicon lubricant. I think whatever works, clean with whatever for visibility and oil with whatever. Just a good pointy thing and a heavy hammer and Bob's your uncle.
@FRUGALWITHJOHN
@FRUGALWITHJOHN 2 жыл бұрын
Whatever works, you can see in the video, I was using a long bolt for a punch. I use the bolt because it has a flat surface and inexpensive to replace. Using something with a point makes it harder to remove because it mushrooms the head of the broken shear pin and in turn making it harder to come out. Thanks for watching. Like the saying goes, going to need a bigger hammer.
