What year is your model 37? Is this pre-interchangeable barrel? I have a 1949 model 16ga that I have not taken the barrel off yet. It's pre-interchangeable barrel, but I think I can still remove it.

Mine is a 48 and i can take the barrel out

@@breakneckmilk9324 Thank you Henry. Since I posted, I have removed the barrel. No issues at all. Probably the first time the barrel has been removed in decades. Never seen my dad remove it. Also tried the slam fire feature, which is pretty neat, but probably won't use that feature for anything except for fun.

@@breakneckmilk9324 I think the difference here is "removable" vs. "interchangeable". Prior to 1963 the barrels were removable but the manufacturing techniques were not perfect, so the barrels were custom fit. Later (1963?) manufacturing techniques improved making it possible to have interchangeable barrels, such that you could remove one barrel and put on another.
