[HOW TO] Remove the Rear Seat on a 2014-2018 GM Double Cab (EASY)

How to remove the rear seats on a GM Double Cab truck. Will be the same for a GMC Sierra or a Chevy Silverado Double Cab models. This will give access to the back wall for audio upgrades.

Great video, now I know what happened the other day when I heard a loud noise in the rear full seat after a person sat. I found two broken plastic pieces on the floor, it turns is the seat brackets you described. I guess I didn't fully lowered the seat when the person sat. Seat still operates, but sometimes while driving it makes a rattling low nois. I guess is the left loose plastic left on the seat. Well thanks for doing the video, now I know what to face whenever I decide to fix the brackets that if they are repairable. --- Thanks

Awesome vid. Crystal clear explanation that answered my question. Just bought a new 2015 GMC 2500HD Crew Cab, and I have the identical seats. Major bummer IMHO when GM changed the design of these seats. My 2001 GMC with the lift-up, fold-down rear seat arrangement allowed me to store TONS of stuff - all EZ to access - but unfortunately not with these new seats. It's my only complaint with this truck and I was hoping that maybe I could MacGyver something to make the rear seat back fold down for a larger temporary storage platform. Unfortunately I can't, but you know how sometimes the little things can bug you. Oh well, at least the Bose speakers sound cool - I'll get over it.

Looked like a plug in the center of the back wall (center across and up and down). Is this an access point? Or is there any factory holes in the back wall that you could run wires or coax cable through? Mine is 2014 Sierra Crew. Thanks

Honestly I don’t know. I don’t have this truck anymore so I can’t check. I do j ow there is a motor for the rear window slider somewhere on the back wall. But as far as access Thru the back of the cab I’m not sure.

It’s not removable. You have to cut something custom into the back of the cab.

The hooks on the back of the seat can be trimmed 2.5" and then they will clear the retaining rings on the back wall, allowing for the seatback to fold downward when the bottom is lifted. Here's a link for the mod: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4vKhJKCnJ2Ubbs

@Mike Long, for some reason I cannot reply to you directly so hopefully you see this. I know the exact mod you are talking about with the older extended cab seats. I had a 2002 Ext cab Silverado and did it on that truck. I still think you might be able to somehow with these seats, but I didn't want to risk cutting anything on the seat brackets before I saw someone else do it on the forums or something. Let them be the guinea pig. Cheers!

On a different topic, I'm assuming you have the led light strips for the bed of your truck; have you ever thought about putting a on/off power switch in the back for those cargo lights? I was hoping someone might have tried to do this already and figured you'd be the guy to know how! Just curious to know how much of a hassle it would be to put the power switch in the back so you don't have to go to the cab and turn it on everytime. Thanks

Dar R I do have the LED's. I haven't ventured that far yet. But I'm sure there is a way to do it. Not sure how hard it would be. I really don't use the bed lights that often.

Is there a firewall or some sort of hole to run a CB antenna out of to the truck bed (I know the bed is separate from the cab and there's a fab between them both)

Yes, there is. Watch my video on how to install a tailgate lock. It shows the location of a hole to put wires thru. Its on the driver side, under the carpeting. You'll have to remove the door sill trim to pull the carpet back so you can get to it.

I bought my truck in August/September of 2013. At that time, the trim package "All Terrain" did not come with bumper steps. Then in early 2014, GMC started including it for the All Terrain package.
