How to remove tight Sram GX or X01 Cranks

Sram Gx, XO1, XX1 etc are known to be a nightmare to remove sometimes and can often end up with a damaged bolt or broken tools.
This simple but effective method will help you remove the cranks with minimal effort and fuss and has never failed to work or caused any damaged to the cranks or tools.

Thank you. I’m in a hotel in Japan trying to disassemble my touring bike and that damn crank was immovable, and given my situation I don’t have a nice metal wrench. BUT, with my Allen wrench and a short piece of PVC pipe, and your suggestion, I FINALLY got it off.

I don’t struggle with that bolt. In fact I got mine out when I used a literal mtb bar as an extension for my Allen key. However my cranks don’t have that self extraction feature. I have Truvativ descendant cranks. I do have this self extraction feature on my second bikes cranks and now I wonder if I can put it on my main bikes crankes in order to remove them. Would that work? Or do you know a better way?

@@fruchtiggacodm8822 if your cranks are missing the round threaded self extraction cap then yes you can as long as they are sram or truvativ, you should also be able to pick one up from your local bike shop for a couple of bucks

The bolt shouldn't be off, it should stay inside the crank arm, did you remove the end cap by any chance?

Got the bolt out. But crank won't come off.. Any tips? Allready stripped the thread in the crankarm.. Bloody sram gxp

The bolt shouldn't come out, is the extraction cap still in place?

You could try, put the pedal towards the back of the bike and rest it on a block or box or something, can't see why it wouldn't work 😊
