Another little tip that I can throw is that you'll do much better if you scrape going with the grain of the plywood and not against it otherwise you'll damage the wood a lot more, and wet it a little bit also helps, I've done this many times for many years

Hello your idea to use the iron is great, but instead of putting my iron on the sticky glue paper I just set my iron in steam and sprayed each area with water and steam from the iron. I used a old rag with hot water to keep the back of my iron clean. Thank you

I don’t care if he talks all day. Thanks Ben Very helpfull. I’m gonna use two old irons At a time. Little more heat works great. Already tried it. Your right, this job is a Monster.!!!!!

I'm not impressed with his technique. One big problem. He talks way too much. I kept yelling at the video, "hurry up", "get on with it". And then to find out it really didn't work all that great. There is a product on the market that is called 747 adhesive remover. You pour it on, soak it, leave it on for between 1 and 3 hours. Come back and scrap all the glue off.

Doing this right now. Nightmare is the right word. I've tried everything too, and the iron seems to work best.

I didn’t hear any mention of asbestos. There is asbestos-backed vinyl sheet flooring. That is the white substrate left after the vinyl layer comes off can have high concentration of asbestos fibre requiring special PPE and qualified removal.

I used a hair dryer. I got a corner started, then applied high heat with the hair dryer under the linoleum and slowly pulled the linoleum up as the heat allowed the adhesive to let go.

Get the flooring surface and that backing adhesive material tested before removing it. Much of the old sheet flooring and the vinyl tile flooring contains Asbestos. Also the adhesive contains asbestos. It was commonly used before the 1980’s. Breaking it into pieces is not good and can release asbestos fibers into the air.

This isn’t removing adhesive, just separating paper from the adhesive. WD-40 and a scraper will get the adhesive off.

They sell a blade attachment for a sawzall that’ll make scraping it 100x easier. Just buy extra blades . I do like the iron idea. Wish I saw this before I started removing my floor lol

Diamond segment grinder with a pcd wheel buddy, will destroy everything in its path and make the subfloor look like the day it was installed

This is probably the best video that I have found. I have vct tile that I let a family member do and they did a shit job. Been trying to search for ways to get the glue out of the subfloor for a long time before it start to actually pull the floors up. Thank you P.S should subfloor be sanded after glue removal?
@echoepeer3 жыл бұрын
Can you just go get wood and place it over top to cover adhesive and if so what type wood would you suggest ? Would that be any worry about moisture in the subfloor and Wood you lay down

My dad was dumb and didn’t do this. Wasting all this time, scraping it by hand. Then he found this after he was all done.

That's like 100% asbestos. I pulled up my floor as well but really it wasn't even necessary.

Breathing in glue steam chemical. Good method though.
