Hope to see it running in the next video, really looking forward to it. And just a side note, by watching the video when the pump first gave out, it actually was the electronics that failed, if the mechanics in the pump failed (mostly caused by lack of fuel), the motor would start loping like it was about to stall out.

7:50 VP44 sensor wire connector took me a half hour and its nearly smashed to bits. There are two tabs that you need to push down, the easy one that you can see and another one on the back side. Now that it's off, I see what you meant by squeeze them together. 10 hours into it and the vp44 is loose, but I haven't gotten it off.

The round thing on the front of the motor is the crankcase breather. It has a steel mesh on the inside to condense the oil droplets and let that oil go back into the crankcase.
@carlosjuanballester4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Where can I get that round tool, like a puller, that you used to push the VP 44 pump back away from the gear or pulley? Thanks!!
@phendrix94764 жыл бұрын
Tork Tool CGP-010 is what I used but there are more generic pullers that work also. That company makes great Cummins specific tools. It’ll also pull P-pumps and VE pumps.
@bigmurph57458 жыл бұрын
when you put the key back in paint it a bright color so u can see it better. if the keys off just a little bit. it will cause a hard start about every ten starts.Also the plastic thingy u called it lol. that's the crank case filter and vent for the engine. the hose goes into the bottle down on the front. take the bottle and make the hose longer. when the bottle because full the fan will pick up the oil and sling it everywhere.

ParodoXz, I checked my 5.9 seems like it's airlocked. I loosened the top fuel lines and #2 is not shooting desiel. Do you think it is the VP44?, I did replace a new fuel pumpon the 2001.
@transamfan818 жыл бұрын
hey man i may be a little late but while your in there with the truck apart, actually you can do it whenever, but you should look into to doing the kdp aka killer dowel pin. it's a cheap and easy fix and major life saver. the kdp is a dowel pin in the timing case that was used to center the case and it can come loose, when that happens the pin drops out and wipes out all the timing gears amongst other things. it affects all 5.9's 89-02. Cummins didn't fix it until 03 when the common rails came out.
@ParoDoXz8 жыл бұрын
Ill look into that man, thank you for the advise!
@transamfan818 жыл бұрын
ParoDoXz gotta look out for the Cummins bros, lol. btw great channel man I always enjoy the vids.
@thecumminspack97208 жыл бұрын
ParoDoXz kdp only effects 12 valves. even though I have installed the kit in the 24 valves. built and raced a lot of em and never seen it kill a 24 valve....but it's the 12 valves worst enemy. just my experience and opinion haha.
@transamfan818 жыл бұрын
Cummins Freak01 I've talked to a few people who had it happen to theirs. it still effects the 98 to 02's. Cummins tabbed it from the factory on the 03 and up 24's. if the manufacturer saw it necessary to do from the factory clearly it was a prevalent issue. I tabbed it on my old 12v and I'm gonna do my 24v. why take the chance on a know problem. a couple bucks and a couple hours, or let it ride and possibly lose a motor.
@thecumminspack97208 жыл бұрын
transamfan81 like I said. I've done it to almost every 24v if worked on just as insurance. personally I've just never seen it kill a 24v....not saying its not impossible by the way. I've seen it kill way to many 12 valves though. like I said...it's not a bad idea, just not as concerning.

Since you are in there you should rebuild your vacuum pump and replace the sensor behind the vp. I don't recall which one is on your model of truck. If you really feel ambitious, you could change out your tappet cover gasket. Just a thought to save some time on down the road.

I'm waiting on the mechanic to call me back with the prognosis on my 01 Cummins. Pretty sure I'll be having to replace the VP 44 also. I also have the wire tap for my chip and I'm seeing that Industrial injection will void the warranty if we use the wire tap. Not sure what I will do about that but I'm not giving up any HP at this time, what will you do?
@ParoDoXz8 жыл бұрын
Scott Brizendine I plan on leaving the vp44 un-tapped for at least a couple weeks until I know for sure that the vp44 isn't faulty from factory. Then I will decide what I wanna do, will use stealth cover if I do decide to tap it

Do yourself a big favor and change your tapper cover gasket while the VP is out. I did mine at 170 K, the gasket was so brittle I could snap it like a twig. If that gasket goes oil will spew out of there in a hurry. I got a Felpro gasket for less than 20 bucks. The only other component you have to remove to replace the gasket is the fuel filter assembly and ECM. You'll see the 6 bolts clear as a bell to remove the cover. Please do it man! A piece of mind goes a long way!
@rrcoster8 жыл бұрын
Ya i strongly recommend that to him as well as mine was in same condition around 170k when i had put new vp44 on also but he says his is not leaking and neither was mine for that matter but like you said it was matter time before it will as mine was in bad shape but he going to leave it along I guess some have to learn the hard way
@ParoDoXz8 жыл бұрын
Fine, yall got to me. Just ordered one haha
@rrcoster8 жыл бұрын
ParoDoXz LOL where not trying not bust your chops to bad but you won't regret not replacing it i understand sometimes when things are not broke don't fix them but this one worth replacing even if not leaking as gasket do eventually deteriorate and ya be seeing bucket of oil leaking eventually which no fun cause have tear all down again just replace a simple gasket.
@timo51748 жыл бұрын
Whew...GOOD CALL! You won't regret it! Oh yeah BTW not trying to bust your chops either, Just trying to look after a Cummins Brother! Another consideration would be the camshaft position sensor...the one looking right at ya just to the right of your VP44. Very good access with the injection pump out of the way.
