Thanks Luke. Have just been wrestling with one of these. Unfortunately with mine, the retaining sliders were jammed and wouldn't release. After removing with some forceful persuasion, I noted that someone else had replaced the mechanism and had forced the lock assembly out and had damaged the screw mounting point at the top. Replacing and securing the new unit will be an interesting challenge...

Hello Luke. Thanks for your video. I have 2 sliders in my home exactly like in your video. I was unable to lock (or unlock) either of them. I followed your instructions and was able to remove the lock cylinder on one of them and subsequently reassemble it. This slider is now lockable and working well. However, after performing the same procedure on the other lock, I am unable to remove the cylinder. Any suggestions?

Luke, thanks for showing the trick with the release mechanism with the screw driver for security screen locks, however, for glass screen door, is there a similar trick? I can not find release mechanism on the Bunnings glass sliding door Leichardt lock.

Luke, thanks for quick reply, it says inside the handle Whitco lock, Jason model, looks exactly the same as the Leichardt, except there is no release mechanism. Can not lock door at the moment, it's frozen for some reason, tried silicone spray but no luck.Want to remove the lock cylinder to replace lock, but can not turn key or snib to lock it, the normal way to remove cylinder. Would prefer not to break it as other sliding uses same key. Cheers.

I replaced my lock and handle sets awhile back and when i installed the last one I got a bit over confident, slightly over tightened the barrel lock screw and shut the door before checking the tension...now the door is permanently locked and i can't get it to release no matter what! Its an airlite glass sliding door with a parrot beak catch.... i would be very gratefull for any tips Luke cheers Gazza from Sydney

i thought of lock picking and bump keys these locks as i dont have the key to replace with a new lock, but you dont need to do it as the locking part of the these locks dont actually lock into place they are free moving 360 degrees. using a thin piece of plastic or stanley knife move the locking latch to the upright position (the outer round section where you place the key) then take the lock mech out.

Luke, I've bought a house that has sliding security door that is fitted with a Whitco Leichhardt lock. Whoever fitted it put the snib side of the handle to the outside face of the door. So I always have to use the keys to secure it. Please can you advise how I can correctly change the handle over. Many thanks.

Philip Brown yes you can but please make sure your put the cylinder in the right way around before unlocking it manually. Or you’ll be in world of hurt. But if reach inside where the cylinder goes and move the locking bar with finger or screwdriver.

Philip Brown yep put the cylinder in the wrong way. You have to snap the cylinder in half to unlock the door. Don’t drill it you’ll just wreck the lock completely. I think you should admit defeat and call a locksmith in to fix it.

Exactly the same reason I am replacing mine at the moment, however I have the multi-point latch top and bottom to contend with. How do I get access to the mechanism to remove the rods from the top and bottom to replace the unit, please?

Old comment but worth a reply Couple of tricks here that are not obvious and you will need; a) You need to Lock the mechanism to get the keyway out, then push the parrot beak further b) After you have the keyway removed you will need to unlock it again by turning the Cam mechanism with a driver or tool of some sort. If you don't do this the lugs for the bar will be extended and will not slip out of the hole c) to remove the rods first step I recommend is undoing the other latch, just unscrew them and leave them free in the housing this will give you some play you need d) The rods are meant to be secured by a plastic clip, you will need to remove these first with a gentle pry (try not to drop them in the door frame) There was another video about whitco tri lock might be worth a look, not a great video but gives you some ideas

@@grahamnicholson1553 If you have this issue see the video with the title "The trick of Whitco Leichhardt sliding door lock removal" which shows you how to disarm the top and bottom lugs per comment b) above by Graham Nicholson, you need to put the tool into the hole where the Euro Lock/key cam was removed from and use the silver latch to unlock the mechanism without the cam.

If your key doesn't turn in the lock it's most likely the wrong key. You will need to pick the lock to open the door. For that you will need a locksmith if your in the Brisbane area you contact me to arrange a time

Jon Sweet 3 options first option call a locksmith (recommend). second option pick the lock with your lock picks. Third option and dangerous one because you damage your door. Remove the handles and use your vice grips on the cylinder and wiggle it back and forth until it snaps in half.

I had mine changed by a locksmith few years back same problem snaped part of it the problem for me is he replaced the 2 screws with bob rivets what do I do I need to change the lock its broken

You will have to drill out the rivets and rivet the new one in. If don’t already own a drill and drill bits and rivet gun and rivets you’ll have buy some or maybe better off getting locksmith to do the job.

Luke I seem to have the same problem. There are metal tabs at either end of the lock which means it is now to large to remove. How do I find the locking bar?

@@leoniepegram9226 Look at the way the cam turns on the key, you need to move the same mechanism the cam activates to withdraw the locking bar attachment points. You still aren't out of the woods yet see my earlier comments about how to remove the locking bars.

You have to lock it again after withdrawing the barrel, so the arms above and below the lock retract. Luke did it manually at 2:25 with no explanation of what he was doing.

Yep, my Whitco Leichhardt faceplate broke in exactly that way! In fact, I have THREE of them on my house broken in that way. What a low quality POS.

Gerry Muller check your strike position as may not be correctly lined up. But yes they all break like that eventually hope your weren’t brand new.
