This is our DIY SUV platform build. How to remove the rear seats out of the back of a Hummer H3. Then we build a wooden platform to make the area that we removed the back seat from level with the very rear of the Hummer H3. We show you how you can build one of these platforms yourself with this easy DIY project.

I did pretty much did the same thing to my old 2002 VW Jetta TDI last summer. I removed the rear seats and the passenger front seat...now there is a 10 foot opening from the trunk all the way to the front floorboard on the passenger side. I have put a few 2 inch layers of foam for a bed and it's super comfortable for sleeping. My 53 qt. refrigerator fits perfectly where the front passenger seat used to be. I love the fact that my little Diesel Jetta gets 52mpg out on the open road...she like to run 75/80 mph and seems the faster I go the better the mpgs ! Oh yeah, I just bought myself a 2006 Hummer H3 yesterday... and I will definitely be following your build plans for the rear of my H3 ! Great video ! LIKED/SUBSCRIBED !

The H3 is such an underrated overlander. I absolutely love mine. If I didn’t also have to use it to carry my kids I would’ve done a platform as soon as I bought. Nice clean looking build y’all.

Fantastic video! We have a 2007 H3 (94,500 miles) and I absolutely love this vehicle! We never use the back seats. We use the H3 as our Dog (2 big Akitas) Transportation Limo, though the folded back seats become a nuisance for them and us! It looks so convenient relatively straightforward to modify. I hope to get many years and miles out of ours. I do take care of our H3 mechanically. Thank you and I look forward to catching up with all of your videos and blog now!

Nice work! Not a lot of H3s out there overlanding. I won’t give up my back seat, so I’ve been working in the opposite direction - a raised platform in the rear storage area that’s more level with the folded seats. I’ll be curious to see how you use the extra space you created.

So I’m just gonna throw this out there I have an h3 and I understand that space is at a premium so with metal prices the way they are I purchased an arkeson roof rack 50 x80 but I knew from the beginning I wasn’t going to mount it on top of the luggage rack bars because it would have it sitting over a foot high including the 6 inch sides of the rack but being a cnc guy I designed a mounting bracket and cut six of them welded them to the rack and now it’s only 7 inches above the roof and I still fit in the garage.... so if you’re interested and have the means to weld them on I’d be happy to cut you a set and send them to you it wouldn’t cost me anything except postage I really wouldn’t mind I know how expensive a gobi rack is and I’m not saying this is anywhere near that in quality but it’s dang near as big and looks good
