Using the supporting pole (by unscrewing the pole’s end hooked to the RV body) to unwind the spring is much easier. This is how they install it as well.

Yes thanks for the tip. My pole was stuck in an extended position so it would have been too long for me to unwind it with the whole thing. But that’s definitely how I will install it!

How did you remount the awning to the trailer? Mine broke a few robots off the other day.

I haven’t gotten to the remounting part yet 😱. But if you just need to replace a couple rivets and you can’t access the backside of the rivets (your interior walls are on) then you will need to use blind rivets or Olympic rivets, and you can get an olympic rivet shaver tool to smooth them out to look like the buck rivets

If you only remove the screw from one end (preferably the front end) of the awning rail you can slide the fabric out of the awning rail w/o drilling all the rivets out. Those screws were put there at the factory to prevent the awning fabric from sliding out of the awning rail.

Hey Dean, thanks for watching! I needed to remove the entire awning from the shell, not just the fabric. And the screws I had to get out were not the ones you are referring to, those are still in. These screws were directly into the shell. The previous owner had done some (not very good) work to stop a leak.
