I have been scouring the web, if I switch from substance to toolbag, what am I missing out on?

for renders specifically? Toolbag doesn't have any of the texture creation and workflow stuff like substance. You can do stuff like bake models in it and create shaders but its not as complex as the substance suite. Toolbag is mainly a renderer for displaying work and environments. I think its a nice renderer for quick results because of how fast you can get something in there and get a result that's solid rather quickly. However you can also get the same or similar results in substance or unreal engine which would be less expensive alternatives. Its personal taste and really comes down to what you want to use it for!
