We had a shower leak in our brand new build home. It was the shower over the kitchen, I noticed water spots. Kept an eye on them, when they got bigger I called the builder. They had to cut open the ceiling. The insulation was absorbing most of the water, but it would have eventually been saturated. The leak was caused by them not using the silicone to seal one of the fittings. We had a big hole in our kitchen ceiling for a week while the moisture dried. Definitely use extra silicone.

maaaan this is so cool to see. Getting some creative insight with this beautiful bathroom. Love to see the torch marks on the mixing valve studs. I'd say it's better to tile first and vanity after so you can put the ladder straight up against the wall to tile close to the ceiling without stepping on the vanity. Also makes it easyer to not worry about cutting tiles close to fit to the vanity. That is a lot of tile cutting! Glad to see you coming so far to buy and renovate your own home, a prophecy fulfilled from your early videos where you said "If I do enough of these bathrooms, Maybe one day I'll own one." and now you have! Congratz brother.

Oh man, I can't believe I missed this video. I LOVE the small rectangular artisan tiles. And you did a beautiful job with the custom vanity. I always learn what not to do as I go with home renovation, which kinda sucks when you invest time and money into something that doesn't pan out. It's still a valuable experience to find out what works best or is the most efficient. I think I would have put the green tiles on the wall rather than in the shower because they're so beautiful and deserve to be seen. With the gold faucets and sconces? Ugh, that would be sooo gorgeous. But it's your own home so I hope you're content with the end result. 😊 Be proud, it looks beautiful.

Well done once again! great choices and impeccably executed in every respect, as usual. Interesting way to Y the singk drains. I just did a Y in the middle and put a cleanout access just below it if it ever needs snaking, but I am no pro. On a side tangent, I wonder why more folks don't opt for a shower panel instead of having all the plumbing behind the wall? I put shower panels in 3 of my bathroom renos and I love them. Upside is they are very easy to remove and replace completely with a new one if it every suffers some kind of failure. The 2 in my house have an LCD displaying the water temperature so I can get it just right before entering the shower, and cost $250 cdn each. cool LED lights built in powered by the water flow, no wiring needed. Much simpler plumbing and a single hole the pex pokes out of high up on the wall. fwiw
@WorkinwithWolkon3 ай бұрын

As someone who has 4 x 4 in grouted tiles in their shower my immediate thought when I saw the 2 x 6 tiles going in was that is going to be a b to clean. Eventually I will talk my husband into redoing our bathroom. Its OG to the house (1986) he wants to do a walk in shower but honestly if we are doing it ourselves id rather just shove another tub in there and use large format tiles for the tub surround.

9:47, keep the white tape hasple the other way around. That way you do not have to do that thingy with your thumb. Thus then the tape goes over the thread and then down towards the hasple. In the vid you have the tape on top of the thread and the on top of the hasple ( that white round holder). When the tape goes over the thread and then down to the hasple, you make the tension with the hasple and you do not need to use your thumb like that anymore. Like the 8 form or like the S shape.

The only fallback to using a drywall screw vs a structural screw I would imagine is longevity in strength and exposure to moisture. I realize the systems you use, installation, and execution is above industry standard. I just can’t help but think about longterm movement around the fastening points. Drywall screws aren’t the strongest, but the load on your tub won’t weaken them too much. It’s definitely one of those circumstances where it’s fine and will be, but maybe susceptible to (one of those) long term situations we don’t foresee. Probably fine though bro. Good work man!

Question, those gang able boxes do you still like to use such small boxes. With new smart switches they are so big and need more room. I have personally gone to 3" deep boxes and it makes wiring so much easier with the extra space. Any reason why you like the smaller ones?
@WorkinwithWolkon3 ай бұрын
Honestly it’s just as simple as habit. Back when I did electrical full time we would only use deep boxes when code dependant and I’ve just kinda kept doing that. For bathroom switch boxes it would make more sense to use the deeps for sure as almost all the switches end up being larger smart switches. However because I’ve done so much electrical work I’ve never had a problem with wire management and making them fit. But that would be a good idea for future projects as it will make it easier on the next guy and myself
