How soon would you recommend mowing an overseeded lawn please?

It all depends on the height. Once you get to around 7cm in height, it's a good time to cut. Just be sure to bring the height of cut down slowly over the space of a few weeks so that you don't stress out the plant too much.

I have considered this a few times. I find that it's tricky to maintain at times. It may be something I look to do in the future. I'm going to see if I can keep on top of this for the rest of the summer first! 😅

@@NoviceGardenerI have a meadow and it only requires 2 cuts a year, one in autumn and one in early spring. If you remove the top soil first, along with a lot of the nutrients then maintenance is fairly easy.

I use Roundup to completely kill a lawn and you can't you wrong with Resolva if you don't want to kill your lawn. I've had mixed results with Resolva, but does the job over a couple of years.

It's so much better! I've just put a second round on the front and back lawn and there's not really been a dip in the thickness or the green of the lawn. I used to wait until it looked visibly stressed, but every 4 weeks (for now anyway) seems to be doing the trick!

I use Roundup concentrate to kill a lawn completely. People sometimes recommend buying it in big quantities because it's more cost effective, but unless you're killing off a football field, getting a small bottle from the garden centre will do the job perfectly.

Thanks for the update.. I thought if you killed off your lawn you wouldn't be able to re seed it.. im thinking I'm not worried about having a lawn till next spring.. so I'm thinking of killing it off and leaving it to see what weeds then may still come through and maybe kill it off again

The weed killer will degrade in the soil over the course of 10-14 days so you'll be fine reseed after that time. I just applied Roundup to one of my back lawns yesterday. I'll be doing a full renovation of it over the next few weeks. It's a good time of year to get it done now so if you make a start soon, you'll have a new thick lawn before autumn hits.

The neighbours who lived there before put a divide between the boundary line. There are tiny bushes that didn't really take along with a trench too! But maybe I should offer my services 🤔

Yep, you need to kill it off before starting your full renovation. Once you've killed it, give it about 10-14 days and then you can get on with some new soil to level it and get it seeded. I started a similar project on one of my back lawns yesterday. I'm going to leave it 2 weeks before levelling it out.

Nice one! You can only do so much when it comes to weeds. Pulling them manually is often you best bet because you can get some new seed down and it will crowd out any potential weeds.

Get a bottle of weedol specifically the one that says 'kills weeds not lawns' this is amazing stuff , my lawn was like this front patch full of yellow flowers that turn to horrible pollen weed and when I applied this product it killed them all and noticed tge following year tgere was less weed and applied in again then the following year tgere was even less , 5 years on I barely get these weeds now , probably one of my favorite products that in fact I'd say its my number 1 favorite as without this no matter how nice and level the lawn is weeds will ruin the look of it

@@NoviceGardener brilliant, they work within a few days like moss killer , it kills other stuff too like daisy , white and black clover, medick, lesser tresfoil, dandelion, plantain and mouse-ear ,i cant wait for you to try it!! its suppose to be only used once per year but because ive never used it before i had so much deep in my lawn that after a 1.5 months some more came back so I applied it again and my lawn was perfectly fine.

I'm looking forward to fixing my lawn, but due to hosepipe ban in South East, I'm just aerating, removing moss and scarifying until water is more reliable and lower risk of high temperatures (no idea if heatwave is going to head north from the continent).
