Sweet, you got the video done on the 8 leg wheel. Anything that rubs or lifts will affect the cuckooing.

Yes I wanted to do a video because one of the group members had a problem and fixed it himself. I think in the future that I will put a shim down to make sure that I have the clearance in my videos.

My cuckoo only runs slow on the FIRST cuckoo. So, it’s like: cuc………..koo, then cuckoo…cuckoo…cuckoo. I’ve put oil on the 8-point wheel’s axle and on its legs to make sure it’s lifting the rods for the gong and cuckoo easily. Sometimes it’s nearly two seconds the first “cuc” and the “koo”. After that it cuckoos as normal. Any suggestions as to where to look for something that needs oiled or cleaned?

I would say that it is an adjustment that you will have to do with the high or low note lift wires. If it is making the first sound ok then I will say it has to do with the low note lift wire which is the bellow on the left typically as you view the clock from the rear. Carefully hold the left part of the lever that comes out of the movement and then while holding it then bend the other part of that wire up or down slightly and see if it works better. Good luck.

@@munnerlyn3 Thank you SO much for the suggestion! It appeared the horizontal portion of the lift wire for the lower note was rubbing against the bushing in the center of the lift wheel. I bent it away from the lift wheel ever so slightly and the first cuckoo is better now!

If you can get the closed captions to come on for your language then you will understand it easily as I explain it in linesman's terms. As the problem could be the 8 point star wheel that is touching the movement or the points are not the same.
