Was chopping into a 20" mesquite and some jackass had hammered a nail into the tree and bent it into the bark. I have a Hultafors that chopped right threw the nail. The sparks gave indication that something was off. Checked the profile and saw a small but diminutive notch. Broke my heart but all is well. The edge is restored and I'll be choppin' tomorrow. The first knick in an axe is the first step to truly maintaining it for years to come. Thanks for the video!

I actually got a small forest axe today made by MB that has one of the tips of the edge rolled over. Was a bit disappointed, must say. It's hard to get it in to the leather sheath. But it will eventually even out by sharpening I guess.

Think my Gransfors 420 has a bit more belly (its never been reprofiled). This profile is giving me Carpenter's Axe vibes. Still looks great and bet it's hair popping sharp. Thanks for vid!

Thanks for sharing, the music is a little distracting. It’s ok when your not talking. Thanks again

Thanks for making this video, yes the music is too loud and competing with your narrative. My son chipped our brand new Gransfors Bruks Hatchet on day 1 because there was a pebble in our stump where he was splitting some logs. Hopefully we can fix this today.

I blew a 2mm deep chunk out of mine on Canadian shield... I cant bring myself to grind that much down, but I guess I have to. Thanks for the video.

I’ve done the same thing to my axe. Hit it on concrete. I’m not game to attempt a repair though, lest I make it worse/ruin the beautiful Gransfors axe. Should I take it to someone?

How about a spray bottle with water, would that work better?
@GodsWoodsman5 жыл бұрын
Noah Freeman Yes that would work good too.

hey man, great vid BUT shut off the music or lower it cause one can't hear you too well over it... one doesn't need music for everything.... by the way, don't feel bad cause the first time I used my axe I got a few nicks in mine.... very disappointed

Please take the music off as your sound quality is poor with rain in the background It’s really interesting video better that I can hear it

Use your axe for what you like . Just saying such a small nick is not a big deal and will come out when sharpened. I use a knife for feather sticks . I mostly chop with an axe . You can trim your fingernails with an axe too but there is a better tool for the job.Not knockin you but that was a very small nick. I do like your video good work !

George Clair good point I understand what you’re saying.
@georgeclair16096 жыл бұрын
Why bother with such a small nick that won't effect the chopping ability. It will sharpen out with time. It is not a precision tool.
@josiahwaggoner24016 жыл бұрын
If you are only using your axe for chopping you are clearly not using your axe to its full benefit. On a regular basis I will use my axe for feather sticks and other fine work.

You're not wrong but it is a Gransfors and people like keeping them pretty. Besides there wouldn't be a video otherwise.
