Thank you. There are not many videos that still show this kind of toilet system, and it did take forever to find this. But I’m glad I did. I made the ‘mistake’ of going to replace the rubber washer by myself, and then couldn’t remember which way it went in. I was able to see the proper way, in this video. But perhaps more importantly, as even with the rubber washer in the right way, the inlet wasn’t working properly….I had to have the little plunger set all the way out for the water to stop. Your video solved that mystery…..the rubber o-ring is essential, and I probably lost this when I was taking the mechanism apart. With the o-ring in place, everything works great, the water stops dripping after the cistern is full, etc. Thanks so much for posting this.

Top man ! Had to replace the bottom entry inlet last year and noticed not too long after it was leaking water back into the back of the bowl. Put it off u till my workmate told me he'd had a massive water bill due to a similar problem. Just taken ballcock apart and the high pressure seating dropped out, didn't know which way it qas supposed to go back in. Quick search brought up this video and now its back in the correct position. I'd originally installed it in the wrong way round. Thanks fella. No nonsense video 👍🏻

Plumber came out yesterday as toilet overflow was pouring down the outside wall. All he did was turn the wheel at the end of the float arm to tighten it. And was gone in under 2 minutes. This is now plumber number 4 and each time there is an issue. Now the flush on the toilet is less. But it’s not pouring outside anymore. He didn’t replace anything and didn’t take it apart. Not happy. Waited in all day. For that. No doubt someone else will have to come out. I’m learning the hard way.

The quick escape artist, adjust the water level lower so the overflow stops but then your flush is not flushing the amount of water it was before.

@@dereton33 sorted it in the end, the plastic nuts had seized up a bit over the years, took a lot of patience to move them without breaking. It's all going to need replacing soon as it's an outside toilet and the cold winters in the north definitely have an effect over time. Thanks for the response though, much appreciated. 😊

Hi, I’ve replaced a few valves like this over the years and I notice a lot people asking about the valve washer and which way round the washer goes. The washers being replaced are usually distorted so for some it’s difficult to understand. Can you do an instruction on how to choose the correct way to fit the washers in the valve. I’ve been watching your videos for a number of months now, very helpful and informative OK, some of the detailed camera shots are in poor light and out of shot, but you’re an experienced qualified plumber not a cameraman I got the gist of it I can replace the washer kit and leave the pipe work in situ It’ll be a lot easier (and cheaper & quicker) than replacing the whole bottom entry valve I’ll give it a try and let you know how I survive Thanks

Hi Al, great videos, thank you. I followed your recommendations and changed the diaphragm washer which worked a treat to improve the water flow. Now, water trickles by the nut (the first one closer to the main water pipe). As there does not seem to be a washer in the nut, I wondered if you had any idea what could be causing it. Hi Al, thanks so much for your great videos, I have replaced a lot of washers on taps since learning from you. My toilet was pouring water into the pan, so I did as per this video and replaced the washer, it worked just until the first flush then it was back to pouring again. I then decided to buy a new ballcock and replace the whole thing, and all was fine again until the first flush? And it is still pouring into the pan at quite a rate. What am I doing wrong? Janice Holland Hi Jan, if your new ballcock is shutting off OK when the cistern is full to the water line, then it has to be a problem with the syphon. HI I would like to take it and see all the parts - as the piston doesn't go back properly, blocking water coming in. But is it possible to do it without turning off mains? I can't find that screw - that is in other toilet in the house that stops water from filling up the tank.

Unscrew the plastic bolt on the arm this will allow the arm to lift and more water to enter the cistern.

The second one if for choice. I think one should have a bigger hole than the other. The bigger holed one is if the pressure is low due to being filled from the attic tank.
