James Kruse wonderful to hear! It’s because of you that there are battles overs my paintings now and begging of certain works to be left in my will. What a great issue to have. Welcome back!

This video was very helpful. I did an acrylic painting for my daughter a couple years ago & it got damaged during a move to her new apartment. She gave it to me to repair. The tear is L-shape & about 2" x 1" & due to moisture doesn't quite come completely together. Thankfully I was the artist, so can try to use the original paint colors to fill in any gaps.

After I have gesso the back can I put some at the front, as there is still a slight dent which shows even if i put paint on?
@JamesKruseArtist3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can, how much depends on the current surface you have. A very smooth surface you won’t want to use very much and definitely smooth it out before it dries, a raised or bumpy surface which is the easiest way to disguises a repair, you could add gesso above the actual damaged area. But for most smooth canvases use it like you would any filler that would fill a hole or a crevice. Let it dry and then you’re ready to go.

How would you repair an acrylic painting that's already had varnish on it?
@JamesKruseArtist3 жыл бұрын
Probably the exact same way, and then I would re-add the varnish in the spot once the acrylic was dry. You may have to remove a little bit of the varnish around area etc. you can also drop varnish in small drops to fill an area

@@JamesKruseArtist I haven't actually been able to find to many videos on this subject, but did see someone use another piece of canvas. Is one really any better then the other? Come out about the same? Do you have a video on removing varnish?
@JamesKruseArtist3 жыл бұрын
@@amberhoppe5916 Yes you can stitch or weave in a new piece of canvas on the back of the painting, it’s a time consuming process. As far as removing varnish, you can use a bit of acetone and some Q-tips testing an area very small first. Heat also works but almost anything you do can have a chance of damaging the rest of the painting etc. These type of fixes depending on the value of your painting it’s something you’ll have to evaluate for yourself. Good luck!
@amberhoppe59163 жыл бұрын
@@JamesKruseArtist they definitely did not stitch or weave anything together. They used plain Elmer's glue in some craft glue in others and glued a piece of canvas over the hole. They lined up the front and what not but there was no stitching involved.
