A lot of people will be confused and not know what they are seeing exactly. What you see is someone that has pride in their work. The basic concept of it is when someone does a job and they don't half ass and do a sleight of hand trick. No out of sight, out of mind. They don't yield to the urge to slap together some fail job and take the money in run. Someone that has pride in their work does it all. The whole shebang. It isn't done til its done. Full measures, not half. I like seeing pride. Thank you

Also I like the straight way you communicate with your crew. Some might see someone that is firm and straight forward as condescending or arrogant but the apprentice or coworker with pride knows what is being said and that's all they need until they are in your shoes and bringing their own up. When I set out training to learn something I appreciate when the teacher lays down the law and keeps me balanced when I start to get out of line. Taking it easy is for lunch time over a snickers bar.

Thank you so much and you’re right some people can get confused and not know exactly what they’re saying. And there are some terrible contractors out there they don’t give a crap if you don’t see it they don’t care. I’m not that contractor nor will I let my crew be that type of worker. I am strict I have one way of doing it. And my way of doing it is the right way. It’s not like I can’t take somebody else’s thoughts but I’ve been doing this for 30 years I know mobile homes. I believe in do it right the first time or don’t do it at all hard work and honesty is the best policy. @@Drewsroofingandhomerepair i just felt compelled to leave the comment because I deal with and see so many people who have their trade as their whole identity and spend every day doing it but it doesn't go past sub par. I am a retired woman who will be doing floor repair soon. A lot of my problems are featured in your videos (uninsulated duck work, water rot areas) are shown in many of your videos; like this one for example that shows your team using faced insulation & placing it face down. I wasn’t sure to use faced or un-faced (R value) but I see your team utilizing this & how they used it. This is all a great help to me as I work on my single-wide trailer in NY. I hope you see this as you answer most comments. #1- What type of membrane is best to secure to the underside of the trailer to hold up the insulation & just tightly stabling it in (is ok?). #2- As we generally have 3-4 weeks of below freezing temps-what R value is best to use? #3-I might have to gut out my entire bathroom due to water damage-taking out the tub toilet & possible the water heater-possibly replacing all but the water heater. Can you explain the steps I should take? I realize that is asked by a lot.

This is exactly the situation I'm in right now. I just bought a trailer that has 4 leaks in the roof, 3 of which caused the ceiling to collapse. The floor in one of the smaller bedrooms has completely given way and the carpet is drooping. The other small bedroom had a leak, you can see the ceiling just barely dropping, so I'm going to tear that out and fix that. I can see that water has run down the wall, so I'm going to tear that up and replace it, and I'm sure the floor is compromised as well. It's got ugly carpet, so I had planned on tearing that out, too. I have a month before I move in, so I'm going to tear up follow your advice and just tear out all the floors of those rooms and replace them with good, new OSB. I agree, NO PATCHING!! It's not that much more cost and in doing so, I can reinsulate the entire floor and make sure it's all done right. This is in southern Arizona, so retention of cooling is more important than heat, making the floor just as important than the attic space as far as insulation is concerned.
@toolman3491
@toolman3491 4 жыл бұрын
If you have polybutylene water lines, replace it with PEX. The substrate you use for the flooring is less important than the plumbing. For those folks not in the know about poly/plumbing should be made aware that the polybutylene plumbing system used in virtually all mobile home construction for many years came, under a class action lawsuit. The settlement of the lawsuit (which is no longer valid) gave relief and replacement of the defective pipe was installed as long as the original owner of the home met the criteria of the settlement. (in the event that a leak occured ,in the poly system and had to be repaired more than once the homeowner, was requireed to keep the defective connector or pipe part to qualify for a free pipe replacement.

@@toolman3491 I've been doing a lot of plumbing and I'm replacing all of the lines that I can get to with PEX. It's a gradual process, but hoping to get all of it done in the not to distance future. My next big project is replacing the lines that go to the master bathroom (farthest run) because when we run the water, there is a sulfur smell coming out of it. Can't imagine what that is, but it can't be good.

@@Drewsroofingandhomerepair Yep, got it all taken care of and been through 2 winters without any problems. I have had to replace a couple of tiles because of wind, but even those are getting fewer and fewer because I reenforce the seal at the bottom (this is Tucson, so leaving them with the standard tack-line of tar just doesn't cut it). It was a lot of work, but I did have an "apprentice" helping me out, so not only was I able to get it all done, I helped teach someone else how to do all those repairs and some of the "gotchas" of roofing.

no doubt. 5/8: or 3/4" thickness in most mobile homes on either 16" or 24" center spaced floor joists and framing with 2x4 is not sufficient for support. Engineered particle board used by the manufacturer is not the best but meets specs. Never seen strand board used but don't know the code for that area of the country.

My husband did little sections then put the new floor on top. So I know what you are saying is true. You MUST replace the whole thing and be done with it! Because of his doing that we are living with different spots of sagging floor. I’m still looking for someone to replace all the floors in our single wide 900 sq ft mobil home. I’d love to get someone over here in Largo, Florida to give us an estimate. Money is tight, but maybe we could afford a room at a time? Anyway, thank you for sharing this great tutorial 🙂

You tell the owner once what he needs. If he continues to give static, you give him a sharp wrap on his beak. That should "bring him around" to your way of thinking. Don't be afraid to use a little violence on these home owners. It is for their own good. Please have a peaceful day.

The problem with mobile homes is that they put walls where there is no support under them. So yes that is possible. But not impossible to fix. You’ll notice in a few of my videos that exact problem that you’re talking about. And how we ran plywood from one room to the other in one piece so it can be done. Can you do a home room by room? I don't have the funds to do the whole thing at once. Plus I still live here so I have furniture. My water heater died, and the floor under it is bad. I want to replace the subfloor in that whole room (utility room) before I replace the water heater. My thoughts are to replace the subfloor and insulation, then paint the subfloor with waterproofing before putting down new flooring. I would like to do this in most of the rooms of the house but room by room. (The house is 20 years old.)

No because you’re putting back either plywood or Vantex and neither one of them will do what the particleboard does in the floor particleboard will fall apart plywood takes a long time to fall apart so you have time to do any repairs necessary before the flow or go bad. If your floor with the particleboard it gets wet it’s gone in days

@@Drewsroofingandhomerepair A manufactured home was specifically introduced to those folks who could not afford a 3 or 4 bed stick built home. In order to qualify the process yes. some lesser materials were and are still being used but the word cheap is not the word I would use to describe a mobile home. I, don't imagine that someone purchasing an older manufactured home for sale and depending on the location price and descrption would agree to that description. The fact is unless the owner of an older mobile believes it is cheaply made which also denotes crappy. I would'nt even dare tell a home owner it's construction is even substandard. They may think that but don't agree because you are confirming to them that not only is the purchaser cheap but, now lives in a piece of crap. Not true, they, may be constructed of less premium materials but to those folks that cannot afford the Caddy it is, their home. The assumption is, that given reasonable care and that routine maintainence is followed the home, will last for many years. Remember this. All manufactured homes are constructed, assembled and transported to the site via truck down the highway at speed, over hill and dale including pot holes and every other other obstacle and arrived on site ready to be set up with minimal repairs needed. You ever notice that the (trailer houses, wobbly boxes or what other negative description you could call them are mostly in great shape from the 50s and 60s. Finally in most cases it is all about taking care of the home. I find that most people will wash and wax their vehicles but neglect to do the required maintainence until it is either almost or, too late for repairs thus, the extensive damages that can and does occur. I don't mean to offend but my belief is you can't keep warm with too many holes in the blanket.

If you notice the floor already has and underbelly on it and that’s what we are laying the insulation on the problem is raccoons will make a hole in the underbelly and come through there we covered up the old existing holes that the raccoons made with a new piece of Tyvek and a piece of plywood on top of that. I spent 7k having the insulation removed, the venting, and had reflexit bubble wrap like insulation out in. Done poorly. My floors are getting wavier and wavier. I have replaced some very rotted spots myself, very patchwork style but id rather spend the money have the entire sub flooring replaced. But I feel that I need to figure out my insulation first. I am considering foam board. I don't like bat because it just becomes a home for rats. :(

@@Drewsroofingandhomerepair that's amazing. Too bad I live in Washington state where it seems home repair is expensive. Which is why I end up learning some of this stuff on my own.

Ok I'm getting irritated. I've watched several videos on floors . At 9:50 on the video you showed a very brief description on how to fix near edges with no place to secure too but never went back to it to show exactly how. That's what I need to get started on my floor behind my washer . Any advice is greatly appreciated

No that is not true because when you replace the floor you get rid of that old garbage and you use the new upgraded updated plywood that does not go away when it gets wet. So I understand what you’re saying. But that is not the case if you put better plywood on the floor than what was there. And that would obviously be my choice. You’re going to either use 23/32 laminated plywood or what I would prefer would be the Adventech. Now that would be the best plywood you can use it will never go away even if you dumped your swimming pool in their
