How to repair a rusty hole. Barn Find Fergie. Episode 11

Gav and Jimmy are at it again as they show us how to repair a rusty hole in a panel, how to remove a snapped stud and how to talk nonsense about Star Wars whilst continuing to restore their old barn find tractor.
This project follows a Barn Find 1953 Ferguson TEF 20 Little Grey Fergie. This vintage tractor was found in a hedge where it had sat for 31 years. Can Jimmy de Ville (from Goblin Works Garage) and Gav (former RAF engineer) bring it back to life using their engineering, building, fabrication and make do and mend skills?
There might be extreme, dangerous and crazy measures needed to breath life back into this retro, vintage vehicle and once farming extreme machine.

That was a stubborn little stud. The dash pannel always rotes out in them. We all forget we are human lol.Tea & Cake every stops for tea and cake. Trying to find a Cav starter for a P3 Perkins Ferguson. Myself for my brother. His old one just hits flywheel. Weak spring's in solinoid so am told. Another great episode mate's.👍

Change the gearlever, no bell shaped shroud on it to deflect water above ball and socket to stop gearbox filling with rainwater

I totally get keeping the "Patina" , it'll look great. But aren't you concerned that after a year or so it will just carry on rotting and end up where you started eventually? We thoroughly cleaned and painted ours, but after 10 years of sitting in a barn the rust starts to show on the edges again. Just a thought.

I've noticed you have not used any Hylomar or similar gasket sealer, any reason why?

I think this seem to be very much down to personal choice. For me, I'm not keen on it, and if using a gasket with reasonable mating surfaces I will avoid using it. If on the other hand it is specifically called for, there are bare mating surfaces or where dissimilar metal corrosion is an issue, then yes I'd use some.

Thanks Ryan, I don’t believe the valve is on video, it needed lots of heat and penetrating fluid, the spring was replaced and friction material replaced with cork sheet cut to fit.

You'll get from the right of the dipstick, between the breather/fuel filters, round and up the back.
