I'm really impressed with SBR. I have used a 1:1:5 SBR/ water/ cement slurry to bond a screed down and I let the surplus set in a 10mm thick slab and I can't believe how strong it is also, it's dried out without and sign of a crack.
@macplastering8 ай бұрын
Hi Colin it is great stuff i only add a cap full or 2 per mix and it makes a big difference helps bond , water resistant , and add strength cant ask for much more great stuff :)

@@macplastering many thanks for the reply. I'm finishing off a wet room (that has been waiting 20 years for me to get round to it). I'm concerned that, at its thinnest the screed will be about 17mm so I'm looking for all the strength I can get and hoping SBR, fibres and a 3:1 mix on the sbr slurry will get me there. I'd love to know what you think.
@macplastering8 ай бұрын
@ColinMill1 sounds about as good as you will get it possibly pant pure sbr down then hit over that with mix

Brilliant video buddy. Can this go down over Blackjack liquid DPM paint? My 50’s ex-council house floor screed is cracked and coming up in chunks so all needs redoing on top of the concrete floor. But the screed has that old bitumen adhesive on top to set in thermoplastic tiles, which doubled as a DPM back in the day. Not that I think it’s necessary because the concrete slab underneath is bone dry even with this awful weather.

Great video. Exactly the job I had to do. Was dreading it but went fine. Added a bit of SBR to the water in the mix. One question- how long should I leave it before covering with floor. Putting engineered wood on top of a 5mm underlay with a built in dpm. Been told about a week by a builder- ideally more but as it's fairly shallow. Thanks for your help.
@macplastering3 жыл бұрын
The less stuff that was in the better for drying as it dries 1mm squared a day the sbr and old floor should also help it dry though so your builder might be right on the time but longer you leave it the better Thanks for watching and supporting mate :)

@@macplastering Will a heater near the trench or a dehumidifier speed things up? I really need to get going on the floor by this time next week. Thanks again.
@macplastering3 жыл бұрын
Drying things out in a rush can lead to it cracking mate they will work but risky also I find the safest way is open windows and doors just like some air flow its more natural drying
@nickjones75043 жыл бұрын
@@macplastering Thanks again. Yep. I suppose with lagged copper pipe below I don't really want anything cracking in case it fractures the pipes. I'll see how it is in a week. It's not in a weight bearing area so may just risk it after that. Will I know when it's dry? Anyway thanks again- I'll stop pestering you now!!! Have a good evening.

@@nickjones7504 Love helping if I can mate its no problems only way I know to test beside a dam meter reader is drilling a little hole and if the stuff comes out like dust in your fingers its dry if it sticks and binds its still damp if this makes sense mate, If you can share this little video anywhere could help others and me a lot :)
@cybernetickiborg25 Жыл бұрын
for that purpose did you use normal screed or fiber reinforces screed? I made same canals across my hole apartment and now I'm not sure what to use to fill it
@macplastering Жыл бұрын
Think this one was normal but with sbr if i remember back witch will help it bond and make it stronger but fibbers would be a great add in for sure mate

Not criticising the screeding or the video poster but burying a compression joint in the floor is not the done thing. At the minimum you want a soldered joint and the chrome would need to be stripped off before you try to solver that.

Not a plumber myself but sounds good mate
@macplasteringАй бұрын
So where would you use these kinds of fittings then just in a stud wall ? what would be the difference why is screed bad is it movement ? or lack of movement ? also would this mean you would need to wire brush the chrome of below floor level sort of thing ? thanks in advance
