I used this technique to fix my tape, and it worked well! The tape had degraded (it's close to 20 years old), bummer. I was able to catch some of the video and the audio was still fine. I wouldn't have either if I hadn't tried this repair. Thanks for posting your video!

Hello! Im trying to recover some tapes with a USB converter. Many of this tapes has a lot of minutes with static and I dont know if this tapes are lost or i need to clean them (10 years ago they work fine). May i open to clean them? It could be the USB converter or the VCR? Thanks for you help!

Did you try changing out the battery? If so and it still won’t open, there could be corrosion on the connectors. Use a fingernail file or some sandpaper to clean the area.
