I realize this is an old video.... but I just used the Rain-X kit... Worked great. My windshield is amazing. Thank You Chris. My only slight addition to your video would be, if it doesn't seem to fill the whole starburst, just LET IT SIT. Hit it with a heat gun a little maybe. I got a phone call, and when I got back, the crack was totally filled perfect....

Just used the RainX kit and it worked. I have a Safelite repair on the same windshield and was about to do it again until the quote came back at $150. I love the Safelite service, but when I found this video I thought what the hell. If you are willing to do it and listen to the instructions it works. I had a star shaped chip and it filled it. I can see a little of it, but it's the same result from what I can see from a safelite repair on the same windshield.

A few weeks ago I saw a video about a chip in a windshield. Pushing on the outside of the windshield didn't crack the windshield, not even when they pushed very hard on the chipped area itself. But when they pressed on the chip from within te car the winshield cracked almost immediately. But because this mount is usually on the outside it probably won't further damage your windshield.

If you pull the razor backwards, rather than perpendicular, it takes more strokes, but is less damaging to the resin over the entry hole. Pushing the blade (like when you were cleaning the virgin glass before the repair) takes too big of a bite, and may cause the resin to break rather than become powder. Holding the blade @ 90 degrees like you did isn't bad, and is faster, but doesn't do as good of a job as pulling it at a 60 to 45 degree angle.

ChrisFix Hey, I later found I had a chip in the windshield of another car. I tried the Rain-X kit on that and now it's filled in pretty well, if it weren't where the window tint starts it would be harder to notice. On the other hand, it's still noticeable on the Mercury. The chip was bigger. Undoubtedly there's a way to fix it though.

I'm using a kit very similar to this made by 3M but it only uses two suction cups under the bridge and I couldn't get the suction cups to stick to the cleaned dry windshield. So I used a trick we used when we were kids shooting arrows with suction cups and licked them and pushed them on and they stuck on great, lol. Now I have the plastic film on and am just waiting for it to cure. It was sunny outside when I started with the vehicle in the garage, but wouldn't you know that as soon as I was ready for it to cure it clouded right up, lol. Guess I'll wait an hour or so and see if it's dry. If it was still sunny it should only take 20 minutes. It came with enough resin to do several chips but it only came with one piece of plastic film which seems to defeat the purpose of as much resin as they supplied unless I can re-use the film.

You are technically supposed to drill through the first layer of glass before filling with uv glue. Although I am impressed how well the kit works. Just knowing the actual correct way to do it sometimes makes us neglect or shun the quick fix stuff. Impressed with results but you need to get yourself a diamond spade bit and some uv glue from crl and you will have crystal clear results ;) Glazier approved lol!

Use a lighter and heat the chip from the inside of the vehicle so you push that air out while you're in the pressure cycle and then you will know if you have all the trapped air out. When you use the lighter to heat up the chip it will either light up or it won't meaning all the trapped air is out and it is full of resin. He had trapped air he could've easily removed with a lighter.

Hey, Chris, I love your videos, but I've noticed a lot of your videos feature mostly your ranger, and mustang, are the problems all real things that you just happened to have crop up, and you just do the videos around them? do you buy problem vehicles, repair them up, and sell them for a profit? it just seems fairly improbable to have so many videos of repair and maintainence on a handful of vehicles. just curious. and happy to learn more about keeping cars working properly.

Permatex is better then rain X, rainX is a shorter time, but seeing the cam thru the winshield, you can see the crack the same as before, just outside you can not much. with Permatex its takes alittle more time, but in your other video you couldnt see the crack what so ever after. now dont get me wrong, RainX is ok but i like the Permatex alot better

Hey Chris, do you have a video on repairing stone chips on the car bonnet? I got a deep one from our recent family trip, and the repair shop quoted me 250 EUR to paint the whole bonnet. They told me the pearl white paint on my car is quite hard to fix without doing the whole bonnet. I'd really like to avoid forking out that much money for a single stone chip.

+Dzulqarnain Nasir I don't but pearl paint is tough to fix without being able to see where the damage was. That being said, you can use touch up paint and you will only see the damage in the right light. I'll be doing a video on that!

Great video. But I wonder, there is no insurance in USA that will change your windshield if it cracks? or anything else?

***** You dont want to get insurance involved. They will raise rates any chance they get.

+ChrisFix I had a windshield replaced on insurance. The company charged $350-400 to insurance, and my rates never went up.

I had a little chip on my windshield at the bottom most passenger side which I didn't notice and now it has grown to a huge crack spreading from bottom to half way up the windshield. Have you done any video for cracks and if you have please help me with its link. Thank you

Here's another comment I copy-pasted and its answer from ChrisFix: Q: I have a cracked windshield in my 89 del rey, that crack is probably older than i am, and it's not the spiderweb type, is there any way to fix it? A: If the crack is longer than 6-8 inches or so, you need to replace the glass. If it is shorter you can try this kit I sow in the video. Hope it helps :)
