Hello Geo! Awesome video, I was watching and it appears the little screw is missing (1 of 3) from the DC9V ..you can see the blue matches the top of the other two screws (which are in place) holding the power piece in place. About 7:20 seconds in you can see at the top of the video the third screw is missing!:)) I hope that helps! I am learning about vintage electronics, so pardon me for not knowing the exact terms. Thank you sharing your vids!! So neat!

Yes an grease softens the plastic i know they have to be lubricated but the amount off diffs i have had go on my rc cars because the grease beds its self deep in the plastic an makes the cog an teeth very brittle and cassette decks anything with plastic gearing plastic does rot when it comes in contact with certain elements especially grease

And just thinking i re listened to the cassette i would say the gear stripping as stretched the belt when it locked the old gears up by jamming in the other drivers

Don't know why they keep saying that about cassette tapes and VHS tapes tapes in general that they degrade over the years no they don't it depends on how you take care of them I still have cassette tapes and VHS tapes and I have had them 15 or more years and they still play just fine bad tape recorder that keeps eating them and chewing them up or have never demagnetize cassette deck or you just toss them around and not put them back in their covers when you're done yes then they will degrade why do you think in music studios when they record the band they put it on a reel to reel first and then put it on a record or CD besides I think when you digitally record music on a CD it sounds generic doesn't sound as good as tape or record that's why they brought the record player back because it sounds real and not doctored and they still sell tapes at the thrift stores and a lot of them are 15 to 20 + years and in great shape and when they came out with players that would record your VHS to DVD and your cassette tapes to CD and they said the same thing put all your tapes on DVD and on CD so you won't lose them they said that to get you to buy there players it was bullcrap I would like to see a DVD or a CD last 20 years or more

It's because they are all kids that have found their parents old tapes that were thrown in a basement, attic, crawlspace, garage and for the last 20 years they rotted there. They go to play them, the tapes don't play because the oxide coating is ruined from all the heat and humidity changes, then they whine on the internet and say the tapes degrade. I have kept all my VHS tapes in my climate controlled basement that barely ever goes over 72 F, and they have been fine for 40 years, I have tapes 40 years old still working just like new.

I already learned: Clean it ALL and replace it all and test it when open before you close it. That tape play doesn't sound good.

You know those gears that were yellow that's not the actual color of those gears you should go back in and replace those other rotted gears they say plastic doesn't rot that's total bullcrap the yellow gears are bad if you had a hard time finding yellow gears on the internet that's the reason why because they're not yellow that's the reason why those teeth broke on the gears because they're rotted

ABS plastic does rot and yes those gears are extremely fragile. One touch and they are in pieces.
