Good job guys. Sitting down and waiting and not jumping in and doing a quick and poor job was your best tip. Thanks for taking the time to post.

Hey, I came across your repair video, I did exactly the same repair with stuff i had in my garage on my ducati fairing. All before watching your video, workout great.

gotta admit this is a very smart quick fix. Cracked a side fairing on my ducati yesterday trying to r/r battery. Was so distressed i was going to put the bike on ebay. Can't stand imperfection on a m/c. For me a sportbike is as much art work as a conveyance. Now i see this vid. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Great vid. Next steps: Sand the front area around the crack with 400 wet and dry paper. ($2 for 2 sheets) Apply auto bodyfiller sparingly to the cracks. ($5 for a tub) Sand down with 800 wet and dry paper till the area is even and smooth. ($2 for 2 sheets) Spray the area with plastic primer.($5) 3 coats - light, then heavy then light again allowing to dry between coats. Sand again with 800 wet and dry paper (wet sanding i.e with slightly soapy water to achieve a perfectly smooth finish) Use the color code for your bike color to buy a can of spray paint from an auto paint place ($15.) Spray paint the area. 3 coats - light, then heavy then light again allowing to dry between coats. Finally, spray with a laquer (known as clearcoat) to protect your job from UV, light scratches, water etc. When dry, give a rub with some rubbing compound ($4) and then buff off. This will give a nice shine. Polish and wax as desired. You will never see that there was a crack when finished.

I have the same model bike. I got it only about three weeks ago. I had my wheel lock on and forgot. When I moved it it ran into the front fender and put a crack in it. I was kicking myself so hard. A new fender is almost 200 dollars for the original.

Interesting approach. If it didn't crack all the way thru and you reinforced the back as well as used some form of epoxy, I doubt it would crack further unless the panel is subject to flexing or moving. My front fender on my new Kawasaki broke. It's a painted part but a "decorative tab" broke off clean when a heavy container fell against the corner. I fully feel and understand your pain and feelings of pissed off! My bike only has 81 miles on since I got it and then this....., Luckily, if I put it back on like a puzzle piece you can barely see the crack. I think this approach with some clear two part epoxy on the back side may do the trick. As an added step, I will add clear film on the outside to help prevent micro chips and future reinforce the repair. Thanks for the video.

@stevencorbo12204 жыл бұрын
I applaud your efforts but would add the following. Never use spot putty on a crack through repair. Use a fiberglass reinforced bondo and use a 2 oz bi fiberglass cloth on the backside of the panel. Otherwise the cracks will come back. Then use an epoxy 2 part primer to ensure paint bonding followed by a few high build coats of primer wet sanding between coats. This will allow all those ugly imperfections from showing through. You can purchase exact match factory paint in a spray can and clear coat. Everything I mentioned can be purchased for about what you spent and you will end up with a factory or better finish. No insults meant. You did a good job. Just suggesting how you could go a bit further and end up with a perfect job.

That's ugly, bro. I wouldn't be able to stop staring at that thing until I burned the cash on a replacement. I just bought a set of Chinese fairings for $300. Took out the piece I needed and closed the box for the next mishap. They look absolutely beautiful and I honestly cannot tell the difference.

rowley cabase you should be able to fix almost the same way. You'll have to make grooves on both sides of the plastic.

I did something dumb too with a brand new plastic street lamp. I tried to save time and labor by not using a ladder, but could not hold the pole in place so it fell of my hands and cracked the lamp. I just used this plastic bonder and wonder if it will hold. I don't want it falling on my head. Would you trust it?
