Wow, many videos I watch I get put off by the way the camera is angled and can't see anything. But you also explained it so well step by step that in fact I actually feel like taking all the ropes out of my sash windows and redoing them. Some of them have been painted over, some of them are super grimy. Just now I battled with one of the wheels where the rope came off the wheel and I was fighting up and down with the window in the middle of the night. Thanks ever so much mate.

Thanks for this video. It's great that you showed how to sort a broken rope without having to remove the whole window. I feel I'd be happy to tackle a refund after watching your video. Can I make a suggestion of using a clamp to hold the rope when weight is at the top. Thanks for reconstructing the panel when your footage was corrupt. I paint sash windows in my line of work, it's interesting to see how I can make it better for if maintainable is needed. Thanks again, will be rewatching, and already saved to a playlist

I normally push a bradawl through the cord and that stops the weight falling Also allowing two hands free

I've replaced the sash cords in over 300 windows in the last couple of years. I always replace both cords even if only 1 were broken. I don't like the pry bar method to loosen the pocket door. I loosen or remove the parting bead that holds the door in place. Some day I will make my own video.

That’s a very good point regarding the replacement of both cords.

Dude I just did it , and went smooth had to cut inside casement in middle to pull bottom casement out to reach weight and it was enough to feed rope in top and connect to weight so that’s was it and a outside trim piece but went really good , all finished thanks man . Wish you a great day

My windows have a galvanized steel “weather strip” in the sashes and bottom sill that insert into the window. Any idea on how to handle/ remove these to repair my windows?
@TrueGritDevelopment
@TrueGritDevelopment 7 ай бұрын
These are usually nailed onto the wood sash, yours are inserted? Haven’t come across something like that. Why would you need to take them out?
@jhfish4428

I need to remove them to access the weight pockets. They go up both sides as well as the bottom. Pretty high end for the 40s. Doors have brass “weather strips” as well. Great design and simple. If I could send pics I would.

I just looked up brass weather strips and read that they are fastened with nails. Also, the weight is behind the window frame, is the weather stripping on there too? You don’t see any nails you can remove?

got any good tips for determining cord length if the sash cords have been cut already?
@TrueGritDevelopment
@TrueGritDevelopment Жыл бұрын
If the cut cord is still present, measure both cut cords. If it’s missing completely measure the height of the window minus the weight then add the length from top of window sash to where the rope terminates on it. Hope that wasn’t too confusing.

I’m having a major issue there is no access panel. What can I do to get to the weights and replace the cord?
@TrueGritDevelopment
@TrueGritDevelopment 11 ай бұрын
It may have been painted over real good. Anyway, you can cut out the frame using an oscillating tool. Do not cut all the way across though. Use my video as a guide to locate where the weights maybe and cut there. You can also drill a hole where you think the weight maybe and poke around. If you feel it, then you know where to cut out. Hope this helps.

Would the access panel be on the outermost part of the sash which has been painted multiple times

Or can I remove the trim around the outside of the window to replace the cords
@TrueGritDevelopment

You should see a wheel at the top of the sash, this indicates where the rope goes, hence the weight. Each sash will have its own weight.
