Hey man thanks for the info this is awesome to see in live time. Question, would you recommend doing exterior window trim before or after installing the new windows? Currently the exterior trim is a thin vinyl strip around the windows. Would like to improve the look with some thicker PVC trim.

I want to paint the entire cabinet inside and out. Is that not a good idea? I don't want the wood showing at all, but you only show having painted the doors and front, so I was wondering if there was a reason you didn't do the whole thing.

Typically you only want to paint the face and doors. Higher end cabinets will come painted all throughout, but that usually happens if you’re building from scratch. Lay out your panels and paint them before construction; otherwise, it’s a nightmare to get paint inside every nook and cranny of the cabinet box.

So when you rotate to 45 your cut isn’t straight or your degree of cut is not an accurate 45? If the blade is square, you should get a straight cut.

@@TrueGritDevelopment the detents. To square blade to back fence. The o my way I've found is putting the slide in the detent for 90 and locking. Then loosening the back fence (all one piece) and move fence to be square to the blade. To get perfect 90 and thus perfect 45 and 22.5 and the rest of the detents. They're cast in so can't move the scale like on my DeWalt I hope that makes sense. Perfect 90 cuts and 45 and 22 miters it's the only way if it's thrown off

The inset hinges for framed cabinets attach to the back of the face frame. It's a much larger mounting plate, it also puts all the stress from the door onto the face frame instead of the body of the cabinet. Cabinet parts suppliers are usually much cheaper than Amazon for name brand glides and hinges like Blum.

How do you shim this door from the outside from the sides when there is no room between the j and the new door?
@TrueGritDevelopment
@TrueGritDevelopment 14 күн бұрын
If there is not room, shimming is not necessary. The shim is to provide something for the screw to hold on too and also help with squaring the door. If your framing is too tight then your screws will not need it. if your framing is tight and square you are good to go, if not square, you may have to make some adjustments to the framing, but that can involve removing siding and trimming back the framing. I’ve worked on many doors and windows and 9 out of 10 the framing is acceptable or maybe be slightly off, but nothing that is visible to the naked eye nor will it interfere with the functionality of the door or window. Hope this helps.

I feel your pain, but you may not like my answer. The only way is to replace your exterior wood trim with brick molding vinyl trim, which is also not cheap. Another alternative is to have someone cap your wood trim with flashing and that can be less expensive than Vinyl brick molding.

First time painting a cabinet. Built my cabinet from unfinished Baltic birch plywood. Used your technique and it came out great! I used a cheap HVLP sprayer and did not setup a hanging station. I was also afraid of the sanding because I only had 220 grit paper and it seemed harsh with even the lightest touch, so I did not sand after every application. My finish was not as glass like as yours but I am still extremely pleased. I imagine after the coat has had a few days to cure it should look even better. I learned a lot with this cabinet build and paint and am very excited about the next one! Thanks!!!

I was following this video to the TEE and after spraying the cabinet paint, it’s leaving a subtle orange peel like finish as opposed to a glass like factory finish. (wish there was a way to send photos of it in YT comments) I thought the top coat might reduce it but it looks around the same just shinier lol. I’m guessing that something was wrong with the air pressure or paint viscosity. I tried upping the pressure and thinning the paint a bit but the spray pattern stayed around the same. Do you have any recommendations on what might be going wrong? Lastly I wanna know what recommendations you have for starting over? Should I strip and sand? If so should I apply the sanding sealer again? Thank you so much in advance, I’ve already learned a lot from the video you made and hope to hear from you

@@TrueGritDevelopment First time with the critter and I had tested with scrap wood but it was rougher than the cabinet doors so couldn't see the orange peel. I know you can reduce the paint by lifting the nozzle but do you have any other recommendations for fixing the spray pattern (given its that same velspar paint)? Also I'd like to start again with the panel I painted, do you have a recommended process for doing that? (stripping? sanding? re-applying sanding sealer?) I really appreciate your help
@TrueGritDevelopment
@TrueGritDevelopment 24 күн бұрын
Got it. If it’s the same paint, you shouldn’t have the orange peel finish. Make sure you use a waving motion when spraying and maintain a good distance from the object you’re painting. As for the panel you want to redo I would sand it down to a smoother finish. This does not necessarily mean all the way to “unfinished” wood, it’s just enough so when you run your hand on it it feels smooth, so no sanding sealer needed, but maybe a primer for a base coat. If you decide to sand it all the way to bare wood, then apply the sanding sealer. Hope this helps.

@Sjrick my house is over 100 years old and nothing is level. I've installed three of them so far myself. I install them by eye then tack them in and adjust from there. I consider it level once I can open it easily, and when shutting it the locks lineup perfectly and the bottom pane doesn't budge when locking the window. Then I make sure there's not any shimmy in the bottom pane when it's open. If there is excess movement I loosen the center screws a bit. They all look perfect. The hardest part of snapping that stupid bottom piece on, which is what brought me to this video. I thought there had to be an easier way but I guess not.
