Termites ate up one of my engineered boards. Glad to see that I will be able to replace that one board. The previous owner left a bunch of leftover pieces in the garage.

Thanks for this video! Need to replace almost every board my couch legs sit on. Ew, yeah. It's my fault. I didn't use protective feet coverings or a rug but want to sell, so I have to replace them. This is very helpful! I need to ask a few questions. I hope you read the comments. 🎉 how long did the project take to remove the glue? Do you absolutely need a saw like that? Maybe I could rent one. But dang, it's a beast. One more thing. How did you happen upon boards that are the same or very similar? Did you have extra? Gonna have to check my garage storage from when the house was built. I know I have bathroom and floor tiling. Thanks for your time, in advance. Again, very helpful
@360remodeling26 ай бұрын
The glue is definitely the hardest part to take up. You want to take your time with that to make sure you don't damage the sides of the other boards. You can use a regular skilsaw to make the same type of cut....just adjust the blade depth to the thickness of the wood. We happen to have extra boards is how we got a perfect match. If you don't have any extra I wouldn't try a repair like this because it usually always makes it worse! Hope that helps :)

Looks like the planks were standard (not random) lengths, which made replacement easier. Some of the other videos drill eight holes and put 45 degree cuts at both ends, which makes removal much easier and preserves existing tongues/grooves. Also, some recommend a bead of carpenter's glue along the seams (then weight, as you recommend) which makes the finished floor level, especially since you've removed the locking/lower tongues. Hope that helps.

The job looks easy enough but how the hell do you find matching floor?
@ruffxm2 жыл бұрын
You don't. You count on the owner having some leftover pieces. It's doubtful the job used every piece of flooring - there's always some leftover. But...Was the homeowner smart enough to save a few pieces is the question...

We had flooring guy come in to replace one floor panel and had it all finished in about 7 mins. He used just a wide chisel to remove it by chopping it up in 2 inch sections that chopped up like butter. And the rest was the same as in the video here.

What about if you are replacing a board above grade on wood substrate that is nailed down, not glued.??
@360remodeling26 жыл бұрын
Jill Fonder You could still use the same steps I took, you just don’t have to spend all that time taking up glue :) You can just use a small head finish screw through the face to install it instead of glue.

Would this method still work if all of my engineered wood flooring (not hardwood) are interlocked? Would taking off the 2 damaged pieces ruin all the other pieces around it?

What was your total time on this project?

+Phil Forrest It took a little over 2 hours to complete. The most time consuming part is just the chiseling and scraping of the glue.

This is a good show , but Strip or the so called engineered flooring is impossible to replace unless you have spare boards ( there is no way you can find the same pattern later in any shop ) . What do you do than ?
@360remodeling26 жыл бұрын
Greg Herman Greg Area Rug?? ;) You’re spot on that it’s impossible to find if the floor is a few years old. We were fortunate that she had some boards stashed upstairs.

Hi, how does this method apply to Floating engineered floors? Won't gluing the new piece buckle everything if it cant float. also have you done any videos on Kitchen cabinets built around a fridge, looking to build a end gable with 30x15 cabinet. Just haven't found much for help looking online. thanks
@360remodeling27 жыл бұрын
Gazooo29 Hi, for a floating wood floor you're correct that you don't want to glue it to the floor. You'll want to glue the wood floor to wood floor. Depending on the quality of the wood floor it may not hold up too long though. That type of floor really depends on the way they lock together. I haven't done any videos on refrigerator cabinets. I would be happy to answer any questions you have though.
@neilmckie27683 жыл бұрын
Puzzled why the whole floor was glued down to the concrete? In the UK, they tend to be 'floating' floors, i.e., they're laid on an underlay and given a small expansion gap around the edges which is hidden by the skirting boards. If glue is used (with certain types of wooden floor), it's generally only to glue the boards to each other, definitely not to the sub-floor. My entire ground floor is laid this way and I've not had a problem in seven years. Plus the underlay provides some additional insulation. Different methods in different countries, I guess. Thanks
@ruffxm2 жыл бұрын
It's installer-preference. I have an engineered wood floor and it is also "floating". However, if it is a floating floor, most likely the pieces are glued together which poses a different kind of problem.

Ok, so my dad redid my floor in my room. He put sponge on top of the old floor and clicked all the pieces of new floor on the sponge. Would this method still work? Would I be able to glue the new pieces on the sponge instead of concrete? Is the purpose of this method to not have to redo the entire floor from scratch? It's like a shortcut? Can I hire a professional to do this for me? I'd appreciate if you can answer my questions, thanks.
@360remodeling25 жыл бұрын
DarthMaster09 yes you can do the same thing with a floating floor. You will just use a little glue to glue the old board to the new board (don’t glue it to the sponge).
@Voganes3 жыл бұрын

I'm confused. Is this not a floating floor? Why glue wood to concrete. Where is the vapor barrier between wood and concrete. What happens with expansion and contraction? Looks like a fail in a few years or less.
@micheleh52694 жыл бұрын
Not floating. I live in Florida. When our installer put ours down through the main part of our house he glued it just like this. But in a couple spots the glue didn't grab well. It's not obvious just looking at it, and the tongue and groove is secure.. But those spots the boards move down and up when you step on it. On the other hand, we have one room with Pergo - which is floating and needs a barrier. The Pergo planks don't move like that. I don't know why, perhaps because they are larger planks. This is an excellent video.
