I ripped the cable on mine but thanks for showing the insides and how the buttons are put together, I nearly got all the way there but must've pulled too hard towards the end. First time I've ripped a ribbon cable after repairing various tech devices! Good news for anyone who's made the same mistake as me is that a new cable with buttons and a headphone jack can be got from aliexpress for £4 shipped. Nothing on eBay for local stock but it's better than nothing! Honestly, might be worth doing if this free fix doesn't do it for you either. If you're going as far to replace the battery as well, you might as well spend the extra money imo.

I tried fixing this same issue years ago, but I guess heated it for too long, I remember the metal case was too hot for me to touch the way you did when you use that suction. My screen died probably because of that. Also I just notice that black thing you used was rubber. I was using a double tape and a plastic from those blister packs and it was apparently too thick. The button is out, but I couldn't press it down. Eventually I used 2 layers of scotch tape and it worked fine, plugged it into iTunes, seems to work fine but the screen is dead.

Thanks, i managed to repair all of my not working buttons. Here is my testymony (xD): Tools: sharp knife, Lego plastic stick, tape, super glue, 2 pins, sand paper and a coin. I did this without disconnecting screen and electronics part, i pulled everything aside and there was enough space. I cut a small piece of plastic from Lego stick with my knife Instead of tape i used super glue, i pured some on a coin and then i dipped a pin in to it and touched the middle of orange pushy thing a couple of times. Then I stabbed little lego piece with another pin and pushed it against super glue on the orange thing. Then i adjusted the height of plastic piece with sandpaper so the button could actually spring out instead of being constantly pushed. I fucked up first time and added to much glue, i tried to scrape it off cause the metal couldn't click back and the orange thing went off leaving me with little loose piece of metal that clicks. I just used one side tape held it in place with one wrap and added piece of plastic with another wrap. The key here is size of the plastic if it's too wide it won't make the metal click, if it's too high it will be constantly pushed by the button.

I did this but now when I turn on my screen it is just white. I tried restarting it and I checked the connectors, still nothing. So, I read/watched some of the other repair videos and I'm wondering A: why double-sided tape and not superglue - won't the tape wear out eventually and you're back to square one? and B: what kind of rubber did you use? Thanks!
@Simos8058 жыл бұрын
A. If you use superglue, 1) you will never be able to teardown again the iPod and 2) it may be damage the display. So the best way outside is to use a specific glue for this use but I'm not sure what's the name of it and where I can get one. So I used a double tape. Until now I haven't a problem, this tape is strong enough I think. B. You mean the rubber I put in the button to make it work?
@sarahjackson50278 жыл бұрын
I actually meant the superglue for attaching the piece of rubber to the button, and yes, what kind of rubber did you use for that? I did find a double-sided adhesive strip on Amazon that is specifically for re-attaching the screen to the metal frame for the gen 6 nano.
@Simos8058 жыл бұрын
+Sarah Jackson You don't need a very strong glue for this, because the piece of rubber it wedges to the button so It can't get off it. I cut a pice of the black rubber that is attached to the button. If you find a specific double tape for this iPod it's better, but the double tape I used I think it is doing the same job.

Almost all nano's suffer this problem and Apple will give you a refurbished one for a hundred bucks that will break also. They should recall this product. You can't blame the guy in the store for the faulty product. He didn't produce it, he only works at the store. Should they give you a refurbished one? Dude, my screen is unresponsive now, my buttons work fine, but my screen doesnt respond to touchscreen .. :/
@Simos8058 жыл бұрын
Maybe you haven't connected correctly the connectors inside the iPod, check at 12:55 at the video.
@AnthonyJacquier8 жыл бұрын
+Simos805 Thanks for the reply man, but Ive done it 3 times and it fits perfectly like a glove! I even hear the "click" my buttons are perfect now haha but my screen isnt touchscreen at all ill try doing it again one more time
@Simos8058 жыл бұрын
+Anthony Jacquier Maybe you damaged the connector's stripes.. Check it, and check the point the stripes connect to the screen.
@AnthonyJacquier8 жыл бұрын
+Simos805 Yeah I think I did, I tried to tape the black and yellow stripes together so they would stick and im getting a white screen now... should I tape them back together or glue ? (I subbed btw, great tutorial)
@Simos8058 жыл бұрын
+Anthony Jacquier Thanks! You don't need to tape the stripes together. You need to find a point as moving the stripes with the screen opened, that the screen working, and then try to close the iPod with the stripes stay at this point.
