WOW! Trena, as you know, this old rocker belonged to my great-grandmother. She loved that chair and used it daily for many decades. I'm sure that when it got loose and wobbly at times, one of her sons would do a little patch job just to keep it going. Of course, those little "repairs", while keeping the chair functional for my great-grandmother, did no justice to the chair and in the long run, contributed to its problems. Thank you so much for doing such an amazing job on this old beauty, which I estimate to be around 90-100 years old. My great-grandmother would have been thrilled with the end result. I'm sure she would have been deeply moved by the transformation. Your hard work, attention to detail and obvious love of old furniture, is greatly appreciated. I am proud to hand this now lovely beauty down as an heirloom piece to my daughter. Many thanks, Trena.

Hi there! So glad to see your comment. And Thankyou for trusting me with its restoration. It was a pleasure. Thanks for sharing its stories. I think the repairs were what they could do to keep it together and thank goodness they did. Can’t wait for you to see it in person. Cheers

Love the fact that at 4:54 you are using a hive tool as a pry-bar! Recently have seen a lot of woodworkers "discovering" hive tools and their uses- I carry a different model for pry/wedge operations at my shop as well! I have bees so the tools were around- and have found a useful place in my wood/metal shop!

At first, I seriously thought your video was about repairing MY loose joints. I wasn't paying attention. I am 70 and just fell and sprained my hip and butt really bad. LOL. It's a beautiful chair. I have refinished a few pieces of old furniture, but nothing this nice. I saw one like it in a thrift store recently, but had to pass it up because of my hip and nowhere to put it. I took apart and refinished a small tall kitchen cabinet in which my Grandma kept her Fiesta Ware. My Mom passed away and I inherited the cabinet. She just let the door hang open in her kitchen but she had previously refinished some really beautiful antique furniture in her life. My son and his wife got the Fiesta Ware. I put a lot of my art supplies in the cabinet, which has Boone written on the top. I have old dishes elsewhere in my house, mostly in curio cabinets, one of which I put together and finished from a kit. Good job, girl!!!

This will probably be an odd comment, but you might see the relevance referring to 14:12. My best friend, my father, died in 2021. I was his caretaker for a few years before he passed. But, it was such a joy learning from him those last few years, great conversations. BUT, at 14:12 of this video, I gave a huge smile. Something so small yet so significant to me. My dad taught me that little trick, some 60 years ago. Funny, he taught me as a child and it continued my entire life. Thanks for allowing me to reminisce on this fine morning, and for bringing a few tears. I always love your videos.

Man, I used to go to Bungalow all the time! For those not in the know, they have vintage clothing on the main floor, along with some new items and some vintage housewares. Most of the furniture is downstairs, though they'll sometimes have a piece or two in the window. Guff is another store that specializes in MCM furniture pieces, though they're a bit out of the way on Queen St. East, just past the Don Valley Parkway. Well worth the trek if you're looking for some great furniture or house accessories like lamps, mirrors and artwork. Sometimes I miss living in Toronto, but then I go out onto my front porch and look at the Atlantic Ocean and realize I'm fine where I am. Thanks for sharing!

This project is like where many cynics would easily utter, "Cor blimey you could've built [buy] a brand new one in the time [money] spent repairing that tired old thing!" and you most probably could. Then again, you can't put a price-tag on preserving a piece of history and old craftsmanship can you? So kudos to the owner. What a stunner of a precious beautiful piece, and whomever rocked herself away on that thing for decades on end in front of the fireplace certainly got her money's worth and a lot more. So well done once again Trena👏👏👏

¡Roarrr!

It's astounding how much work went into the museum pieces of furniture. Craftsman and artisans were so respected and honored. From these pieces of spectacular furniture one can easily see what rich people spent their money on. The carving and design is exquisite. We are so lucky to have these pieces from history to learn from and appreciate. In a hundred or several hundred years from now I wonder what will be left from the rich of our time? I don't think stainless steel, glass and rock countertops will be as impressive.

Absolutely lovely! Lots of time consuming little fixes but well worth it with the results. Thank you for taking us along on your journey to the furniture shop and the museum. Some really nice furniture WOW!

Just got a couple of older Mersman side tables that need a little love and a nice old quartersawn (tiger) oak Morris chair. I'll need to undo some "repairs" that have been implemented over the years, and generally tighten everything up. Very comfortable, and kinda neat looking. It's my wife's priority job for me right now 😆

So many random, poor repairs done to that chair! You really made her shine again.

Dazzling is the first word that comes to mind. Everything old looks new again! Can't even see the repair on that rocker. Such gorgeous wood grain, it's now a real showpiece. Been there, done that - too long screw. Very frustrating when almost done. Sincerely appreciate the way you show us different pieces each week. Keeps it more interesting. Did you tell on previous episode that Goudys discontinued that color? Big mistake.🥰

No it was a varThane gel stain color. Goudy still makes golden oak. 🥰

Beautiful Trena. Not my style but you really brought that piece back to life and can be enjoyed and treasured again. We don't have anything really antique here in Guam to go to like a museum or workshop on furniture. Thank You for taking us along your field trips. You sounded and looked so thrilled and I was too.
