How To Repair (Micro) USB Cables | Electronics Know-how To Go #1

In this episode, I show how to repair a broken Micro USB cable with a connector replacement. The broken cable is of type "charge-only". I posted an article on my personal website that shows how to repair a "full" Micro USB cable that features also data transfer (Wires: 5V, GND, D+, D-):

Thanks for sharing, I never considered the option of repair. This also offers the advantage of making the cables to your desired length (often the cables are too long for what is needed, making for untidy desk tops.

On my mini usb tester I have, the pins on the inside of the connector are damaged from over use. Would you know a way to fix that?

I mean it mKes sense that do that given you have all the tools to hand. I'd be really interested to know whether u can reuse parts from one USB cable to another? Though granted, they have a tendency to break at the point that connects to the phone

Great video! Can you also make a video of the pin outs of the Oppo VOOC usb cable? I would like to repair mine. Coz I think I connected the wrong wires on the pins. I hope you can help me correct my mistake.

Unfortunately, I don't have a broken VOOC cable at home, Moreover, I don't have a VOOC cable at all. Therefore, it might take sometime until I own an VOOC cable that gets broken :/

Why didn't you use electrical tape on the soldered wires? At the very least some heat shrink tubing...

Thank you! This helps me realize I'm better off to just buy another cable for less than $10 than to try and repair the end because I don't have a soldering iron and my cable is braided heavy duty style.
