Hi! Thanks for your video. I was wondering what would be your recommendation for my problem. Surface Pro will not turn on with new or old battery. Old battery was working fine but bulging. Anyways, my diode measured 7.52V and 7.23V at each side so I see nothing wrong there. But at your last voltage measurement at the video time of 3:36 your Vout was 3.325V. Mine is 0.25V. Do yo know what's wrong with mine?

Thank you very much for sharing your findings. It was a little difficult to follow the video because it seemed some of your test leds were out of the frame of the video. I assume you are connecting the com led to a common ground when you are testing the diode when you put the red led on the left and right side of the diode. When i was testing the diode with the surface unplugged and the surface was oriented with the battery facing away from me my meter showed ~ 7.4V on the right side of the diode, unplugged ~ 7.1V on the left side of the diode, unplugged plugged in i got the following readings ~ 6.97V on the right side of the diode ~ 14.63 on the left side of the diode then when i tested the cap that you tested at the end of the video with the red led on the left side of the cap i got ~ .27V I am going to assume that I need ~ 3.3V going to that cap for this device to power on. My question is, is the diode bad on my surface or is it good and I need to search / replace a different faulty component on my surface? thanks again for making this video, and sharing your findings.

I measured Voltage over the diode from anode to kathode, on the one I get 0.2V and on the other(the same one you replaced) I get no reading. So does it mean I need to replace the same diode as you? Hi, I can't really help you. Check the battery under heavy load (2-3 Omh resistor), check all diodes, fuses and power path according to power converter datasheet. Use oscilloscope in trigger mode to check battery voltage deviation after power supply off.

Hi Konstantin, I have spent weeks trying to fix my surface pro 4 8 GB ram from huge battery drain problems when off. I have tried replacing this diode and noticed the same one next to it is missing so I also added this one in case it's a factory defect. It seems to have made no difference at all however I'm sure its hardware. I don't know of anyone else on the internet that will know better than you so I'm curious as to if you have found a missing chip before or have even run into this problem and have not been able to fix it.

Hi, I haven't faced with such problem. There's original surface on video, I added nothing. May be you have some first revision of Surface hardware. I would try using a thermal imager (you can rent it) to find hot spot on PCB that drains battery when off. But I'm not sure if it works for you 😃

Hey all. Having same issues as in the video. I measured the way Konstantin did. His first Measurement was 8,3v and 4,4v. Mine ist 8,3v and 2,8v. Hey mate. Since it looks like you got way more experience with surfaces I'm kindaly ask you for some assistance. I have a surface pro 4 which doesn't turn on anymore. I checked for shorts and blown resistors, but couldn't find any. Plugging in the charger gives me the signal for charging. But nothing happens. I checked the battery and it was at 0,2V. I got it back to live and charged it to 7,4V. But still nothing. When I messure the Voltage on the 2R7644RH4 (the big block in the middle of the board --> sorry I don't know the exact name) it is 7,4V. So it seems that the voltage is there. But I still have no power. I checked the CPU circuit and I guess with around 14 Ohms that is kinda ok (I assume it is like a phones cpu and gpu circuit which have really low resistance). Any other guidance to check before I try to get it running on my external power supply?

I think battery is dead. Check it's voltage under 2-3 Omh load. Or check it using IMAX or similar charger.

Здравствуйте. Проблема с точно таким же планшетом, перестал реагировать на кнопку включения, никакие варианты не помогают, видимо что то с контроллером питания. Батарея в хорошем состоянии. Кстати в момент нажатия на кнопку питания гаснет индикатр на зарядке, и потом снова загорается. При попытке ресета тоже гаснет пару раз. Что посоветуете ? Спасибо!

Now I'm facing the same problem. But I'm lack of electronic knowledge and tested it with the multimeter and here're the results: The diode near the camera shows 8.3V and 2.32V at the other end. Another diode near the battery shows 0V and 2.32V. When plug into the wall, I've got 8.97V and 15.17V for the one that near the camera; still 0V and 15.17V for another one. It's quite different from the result you've get. I'm not sure if these two diode have any problems. If you can see this comment now, please give me some suggestions.

The battery won't charge at all no matter the device is on or off. It's not the "pluged in not charging", it just like I'm not plugging the charger. But the white light turns on when I pluged in. Not sure about how this happened and if it's fixable.

@@Asahi380 It's strange that you have 15V, it should be around 12V. May be your charger is broken. Check with working one, for example in a shop or 2nd hand shop.

My charger outputs 15V which also wrote on the shell of it and I used it for 2 years. I'm not sure it's worth to replace. Maybe I'll swich to a new Surface this year.

Приветствую. У меня немного другая проблема. Девайс перестал реагировать на зарядное устройство. Даже в трее, на батарее нет индикации зарядки, при подключении ЗУ. Нет надписи "Покдлючено, не заряжается". Просто ноль реакции, но на коннекторе светодиод светится. Зарядка китайская, не оригинальная. Ещё в разьёме питания загнулся внутрь паза пин. Седьмой по счёту слева в верхнем ряду, если планшет повернуть разъёмом к себе, а экраном вверх. Что это может быть? У девайса осталось 30% заряда... ещё немного и он просто не будет включаться.

Проблема образовалась не сразу. Сначала, однажды вечером, девайс начал иногда не реагировать на зарядное устройство, но если пошатать штекер - то заряд начанался, однако потом пропадал. На утро девайс полностью зарядился и когда я его на работу принёс и подключил ЗУ он абсолютно перестал реагировать на ЗУ. Что порекомендуете сделать? У меня в городе сервисов нет, но сам ремонтами давно занимался. Инструменты есть.

Недели две всё ок было)) ЗУ разбирал, там даже один СМД резистор на паке весел почти в воздухе. Припоял его нормально, всё промыл спиртом. До этого блок выдавал 17 вольт, после стал выдавать 15. Очень надеюсь, что проблема именно в нём. Уже заказал с озона кабель surface connect - type C с поддержкой power delivery. Попробую через него позаряжать. У друга есть блок с поддержкой PD. Контакт в разъёме, увы, уже не без разборки не вернуть на место. Вроде бы это -data usb. Кажется, он там ничего не замыкает, просто согнулся. Докстанции у меня всё равно нет. А внизу планшета есть порт для подключения клавиатуры. По бокам от 6 пинового разъёма есть 2 глубоких разъёма с металлическими контактами внутри. Что это, не знаете? Может через них можно заряжать?

I am having the same problem with the Surface RT 8.1. Remove the power cable and it dies. Plus I cannot get it to charge over 59%. I would replace the diode but I’m dangerous with a soldering iron.

Replace the battery if it's more than 2 years old.
