I was about to throw mine away, as he is sitting alone in a corner for so long now, but this is giving me hope. Yamaha asked me to pay 450€ just to look at it and state the repair cost. It lasted less than 3 years before the problem started. Now I just need to test with my soldering heat gun, and if iI get the sound, find the skilled guy that would replace it. Sure, some would say "what's the point, ain't no Atmos...", but I did not wait for atmos to get great sound in my living room, and if I can get it to work again, I'll be happy for many years. Thanks a lot for this video, that's super cool to share this.

If you get it fixed, you needs to invest in a fan to keep the receiver cool. That's why people are having issues. I have an Aventage that's almost 10 years old and haven't had a single issue.

That was a nice job, I think that is also the same problem with my Yamaha RX A720 because at first there is an audio function but later on the sounds become distorted until its gone. May I know sir if what will be the serial no. to ask for the chips? is the middle serial no. or the lower part? hope you can answer my question, thank you.

Hi Audiosmart, great video thank you. I note that you use 283 deg C to heat the chip for testing, but I did not see temperature settings on reflow gun for removing and installation if the chip. Would you please advise temperature setting and duration of application (understanding that different guns will have slightly different temperature output for same setting).

Thanks for putting the video up. Always appreciated when someone takes the time. I’m curious about a few things. What is in the tube with the syringe tip? Are you depending on the heating up off the chip to reflow the solder on the bottom of the chip when the chip is placed in position? Lastly, are you just lightly soldering across the pins on the chip? Thanks, I may be trying this myself so it’s nice getting good input.

I have a solder in the syringe that melts at a low temperature of 138 ° C. You can use a standard lead solder, but you need to heat the dsp integrated circuit for a longer time. Exactly the dsp chip must be covered with solder underneath. Finally, you need to solder the feet so that they do not stick together with the solder.

Yamaha is not the only manufacturer that uses these Texas Instruments chips. These chips perhaps would last longer if a heat sink was installed. Its a throw away receiver because no replacement chip, no boards are available for replacements. Its stupid to waste money buying these junk units from all manufacturers that won't provide replacement parts. Absolutely a waste of money.

@@spasmonaut10 I think the main problem is getting a new DSP chip as they're not carried by Yamaha anymore. The shop did say they tried changing mine but it came back not working at all whereas before at least it would work after a long warm up. I ended up buying another in the end

Beautiful video thank you. I have a problem with a fairly old Yamaha htr-5230rds amplifier. When you turn it on, most of the time, either only the right channel works or only the left or only the sub! Turn up the volume a lot and all 5 channels will automatically reset. I heated up the DSP chip D81YK113DZKB5 and it started working.. after some time again, it stopped music. then I heated up it is working fine. Is it a chip failure or we need to BGA reflow soldering the complete chip. Need your input to fix it permanently

How do you reset the receiver? I have a reset method like this: While pressing the “TONE / BALANCE” and “INFO” keys, press the “MAIN ZONE” key to turn on the power and keep pressing those 2 keys and “MAIN ZONE z” key for 3 seconds or longer.

@jdryyz I have the same problem developing on my a630. Takes 10-15min to heat up enough on its own to start working. Lately, it's starting to crackle/pop the speakers and goes in/out after it's been on for a while. Got it on ebay for $200 over 5 years ago, so not a horrible deal if I can't find a new chip, but I'd certainly pay someone, or even try to fix it myself, if I can find a new chip, that is, and I'm afraid that's going to be a long shot at its age. FWIW, I've got a couple of ancient yamaha receivers from the 80's, an R-30 and an R-500. They still work somewhat, but the capacitors are in very bad shape, which happens with old electronics and just not worth fixing. The a630 has around 7 or 8 hdmi inputs, and the surround sound quality is just superb. Up until a month ago, it never had a single problem on any channel, and thanks to my kids and their video games, we used just about every input. Shame. 😥

Hello. I have same problem on rxv773. Dsp chip failed d80yk113cptp4. I bought replacement chip updatet d80yk113dptp4 from ali express. I took the board to mobile phone tech to exchange the chip. I dont know what he did but now i do have speaker ikons right away but no sound at all. Only radio in pure direct. My question is. Did you have to put some code to receiver or some special setup to get the sound, or you just replaced the chip and it works from the begining? I did firmware update, reset receivee, back up IC from service manual instructions. Nothing help. In video you said that you put dptp4 chip but you actualy soldered cptp4 chip. Does that matter or not. Maybe tech didnt soldee middle plate of the chip. Help if you can. Thx
