Thank You Sir for showing me how to rebuild a Honda Starter. I just did my first one on my Prelude H22 Starter and now it works great as of November 4, 2021.

Solenoids don't have brushes, they have contacts. Those contacts in that solenoid which never got showed can be replaced without taking the starter off. I used to repair those in the peoples driveway for 5.00 dollars ( but I was experienced). The contacts cost .39 cents. a very simple job. If you break the cap it will cost about a dollar. Check your local rebuild shop for parts, don't go to parts stores. Now days you can go online. When we had our rebuild shop we used to sell complete rebuild kits for starters , alternators and generators for those who wanted to fix their own. Hope this helps.

Would you kindly provide the name for the part needed to rebuild the solenoid. This solenoid is very hard to find...
@ollimakkonen2818 Жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct. Starters, and many other motors, have brushes, sometimes called carbon. Solenoids have contacts, whose job is to close the circuit. Overall, alike many knowledgeable whom may have looked at this video, I also was left wondering just what was "Rebuilt"? The starter was assembled in the same condition as it was when dismantled. No attempt was made to clean any part, nothing was replaced, neither the spring tensions were checked, nor the brushes for free movement, the commutator segments were not checked for neither out of round or contact (shorted) nor for resistance variation with nearly segments, nor the separation caps cleaned and on top of everything else, the cap was assembled in incorrect position. If the cap is not properly lined up, neither are the long starter securing bolts. Finally, I wonder why the manufacturers specifies tightening torques. Cheers from Aussie trained Dr. of Mechanical Engineering.

You dont need words to see what his doing. Just follow it step by step just like how he does it.

Am I missing it? what did you do other than take it apart and put it back together
@zorbzzsterio64066 жыл бұрын
good video. even though you just pulled it apart and reassembled it. it would show anyone how to put the new parts in
@workonitm84 жыл бұрын
He didn't take the solenoid apart. THAT was what I wanted to see. Most of them are crimped together making them difficult or impossible to dis assemble or repair and re assemble.
@workonitm84 жыл бұрын
So, what happened to the solenoid rebuild? All he did was take it apart and put it back together. Nothing was repaired.

Utilizing gasoline for washing parts is the word of the week for people whom enjoy seeing themselves in flames. Others either make use of the various commercially available cleaning solutions, or diesel fuel.

I have problem with my starter solenoid, not the motor or motor brush, looks like he is not doing the right job, title: HOW TO REPAIR REBUILD STARTER SOLENOID BRUSH. But in video he is servicing the motor brush, not the solenoid! What I want to know is just how to open up the solenoid contacts. Looks like it is clamp locked without screw!
@ollimakkonen2818 Жыл бұрын
Remove the 2 x 12 mm nuts (in most cases) and the black plastic cover can be removed. Once upon the time, before greediness overtook the minds of people, service kits were available for the contacts. Nowadays, in some cases the contacts can be filed with a fine-tooth file of a suitable size, and then polished smooth. Finally, all the filings carefully removed from inside the solenoid. Hopefully his helps, even though it's a few years late.

WTF??? That was no repair, just a disassembly and reassembly. Not even cleaned internally, yet alone anything replaced or even serviced. How about at least some new grease? Standard Phillips screwdriver bit used on JIS screw heads? I could have done better than that by the time I finished high school. I'm now over 70 and have serviced/repaired several thousands of starters, generators and alternators. A total waste of time to watch this one.

R U S S I A No 1 figured it out so I just decided to respond he fixed the starter from some type of disengaging malfunction rather getting stuck when engaged or not engaging properly but he must of forgot to check the brushes yet he must of not really thought that was the main problem he just got ahead of himself happens to the best of us.
