One of the most dreaded repair issues on a chainsaw - made easy with this video. Thanks!

The starter works fine. When I assemble it, rope won't pull out to turn the motor. Stops dead. Does that mean the engine is froze up/shot? Thanks

The starter cord is not retracting on my chainsaw. Nothing is physically broken. As I'm watching the video, I'm wondering if the metal in the spring can simply fatigue and lose the strength to recoil the cord. I can't see any other explanation for why my starter is not recoiling. I would love to get your feedback.

Starter dogs? Is that the correct term? I only ask because mine is worn, cant turn engine over and having a difficult time finding a replacement part. My saw is a Tanaka, but these particular parts look identical. That white starter dog is exactly the part i need. Tanaka dont seem to sell that small part just whole starter for $75.

Thanks for your question. If you send us your chainsaw's model number, we should be able to help you find your part. Often the starter is sold as an total unit, but we can always check for you!
