How to replace 12V battery 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited

Having trouble with your keyless start on your hybrid? Don't go to the dealership. They will rip you off for $329 to replace your battery. I promise you can do it on your own. Watch my video how to replace it easy except the metal bracket that has a notch. It took me a while.

Interesting, appears there is a sequence which requires first removing the switch on the bracket, followed by the negative cable. Makes sense to me. Thank you.

I just replaced the battery in a Sonata Hybrid 2011 following this video. The hardest part was putting the metal bracket back in. I had to get inside the trunk to get that part done. The task could have been even harder if I did not see this video. Thanks a lot!

How is your hybrid battery doing after a 10 years use ? I heard it can last from 6-10 years and cost about 9k to replace. (asking bcs I bought my first car a 2013 Hyundai sonata limited hybrid.)

@@NA-wq2ty My hybrid battery is still working fine at least as far as I can tell. I have different problem where the 12V battery is not holding the charge properly only 2 years after the replacement. I think that 9k replacement cost is exaggerated. I think that it is something close to half of that. You should check with Hyundai dealer for the exact cost.

Very good video. The battery should last 6 - 8 years as it does not start the car nor get killed by under hood heat. You need to reset things (door locks and sunroof) just check your manual. Dealers want to tow you, you can just jump it like a regular car. The replacement shown is an exact match.... and way cheaper. The "R" in the model states the terminals are "reversed" With labor, the dealers have charged $475.. for a battery ! P.S. you brake pads will last 100K, unless you slam on your brakes a lot. Don't let the dealer say they need replacements at 40K or 60K. I had 40K and mine were still new looking.

This was a helpful video. Thank you! I found that by taking the ground cable completely off it was easier to get the old battery out and the new battery in. It was just one additional bolt.

I found that after disconnecting first wire, then completely removing negative cable and bracket. You can slide the battery out a bit to get at the positive cable and hose behind it easier.

THANKYOU VERY MUCH,....This VIDEO will be Just what I Need to do this on my “2014 Sonata Hybrid Limited”....BUT,...There’s an Electrical “Safety Connector” that you probably should “Pull out”...inside a Panel Access Cover, located in the Trunk Straight forward ...( Accessed in the Trunk Moulding itself), That would be Good to do, before working on Anything !....Ask your Service Mngr., to be sure...They usually are Helpful when “Do-it-your selfers” want to change out simple things like Our Main Hybrid Battery’s...every 4-5 years or so...Any comments are WELCOME HERE...??!!👍👍😊

A big thanks for your video. That bracket was an absolute pain. I found, like you, that the battery terminals need be removed first to allow sufficent battery movement to get that bracket off.

I ordered one from O'Reilly listed as a fit...terminals on the wrong side. Your video with the battery brand shown has me headed in the right direction.

So I could tell the bracket was going to be a pain so I just loosened it enough and slid the battery out without completely removing it. I also found that advanced auto will recommend AGM battery and the terminals are switched(meaning the negative is on the left and positive on right) which I tried to turn the battery around and did not work. I found the correct battery at O'Reilley's. The only question I had is what's the connector for on the bracket?

Two questions: 1. Would it be easier to remove the black lining on the side of the car first so the area is easier to access? 2. When connecting the negative connector, did the battery generate a spark ?

always remove Negative terminal first! where did u buy battery from? seems most parts store dont carry correct polarity. a heads up most new cars, the ecu monitor the battery and when the battery gets old the alternator ramps up amps. so if you replace without resetting the ecu with a scan tool, you might have problems down the road.

The BMW does weird thins to a battery, that you need some scan tool to "reset" the new battery. The Hyundai or KIA does not. Just a simple swap with the correct battery. It must have the vent for the tube. The correct replacement does. Most stores don't carry them in stock. Usually a 1 day wait. They cannot ship them to your home according to a number of people.

@@thesnapz54 the tube vents the flamable hydrogen gas out of the car, the trunk and passenger compartment share the same air. It's a safety thing.

Google H6R 600CCA and you should be able to find one. In addition to Advance Auto Robert mentions, Interstate seems to make one also, although the warranty is shorter and the retail price appears higher. Unless you are prepared to install new positive and negative post cables, no other battery has the proper post height and layout.
