This is the best battery change video ever. My wife owns a 20230 KIA Sportage, and yes, I am waiting for the battery to give up the ghost. I live in Tucson, AZ. It is a miracle that the battery lasts three or more years.

Thanks for the vid. Made it easy. I did run into trouble getting the air filter back on. The positive lead was in the way. Turned out I installed the battery too far to the right. Just loosened the bottom bracket and slid it to the left. All good now.

Thank you. You do a fine job of showing the retaining "lips", the wire-brush cleaning of the new terminals as well as of the insides of the cable clamps. and using anti-sieze and terminal protective materials. Only addition might be a close-up of the wire brush terminal cleaning tool. I really appreciate your work. I was worried about the complex look of the conection hub at the + terminal, so your stating it's just the 10mm bolts that need to be loosened is reassuring.

Incidentally, my KIA battery, installed by my dealer in 3/20/20 has just died after 3 years and 4 months, has just died, 7/28/23. KIA brand no guarantee!

I have no idea, I would take it back to the KIA dealer to see why the battery keeps dying, that shouldn't be happening.

I think it is just the life of current batteries. 3 years now and it's time for a new one, though there COULD be a current draw, even in this simple car. A mechanic once told me of a diagnostic headache he had... turned out to be a faulty rear window defroster. A friend's Volvo drains its battery if not driven regularly, such that I bought a big charger to keep bringing it back from the "Low Battery" condition.

Great video. I have a 2020 Kia Sportage. When you take the old battery out, there is no electrical charge flowing to the car until you connect the new battery. Does this raise any issues for components which may rely on continuous power like the computer systems in the vehicle?

Any components that need to draw from the battery for memory should have their own backup batteries installed for short term disconnects. Worst case scenario start the vehicle with the new batrery in and let it idle for about 10 minutes to allow it to self calibrate. At least in regards to the ecu, you may however need to manually reset the clock and radio presets. I live at high altitude and have to do this for my vespa any time i disconnect the battery.

We show this in the video. There should be a bolt and a battery retainer that secures the battery in place.

There should be a hold down bracket at the base of the battery that secures the battery to the plate under the battery. The video covers this.

The battery hold down should be a 12mm or 13mm bolt, but im making zero guarantees on that lol. The other video i watched said it was 13mm, but mine was a 12mm.
