How to replace a 03 dodge ram 1500 fuel pump

We lift the bed of my daughters pickup and replace the worn out fuel pump.

To avoid any risk of the bed falling on top of you, you can also drop the tank and pull the fuel pump as such, just takes a little more time

I just added a new fuel pump. believe dropping the tank was so much easier. the hardest part was undoing the fuel line and electrical connection. connection just like the ones shown here. but not what the repair book showed.

The connections are definitely the biggest pain and is one of the reasons I like lifting the bed another reason is I find it easier to do when the tank is full.

Nice job on lifting the bed, to get to the elect.fuel pump. A matter of fact, just changed my fuel pump, on my 1997 F150 with 265,000 miles, had to drop the tank though, not a emergency job, just time and miles wanted to do it for a while. The dodge have a much bigger fuel pump assy., what a good idea to lift the bed to get to it. Hopefully she won't hit anything else on the truck.

@@toyshopfab I got a question? When i put in the new fuel pump but all the sudden the gas gauge isn’t showing how much gas it has, i filled it up and its still telling me its empty, Is this just temporarily since its a new pump or do you think theres a problem?

@@juancanastuj1645 there may be a problem, it's rare but sometimes the sending unit on the new pumps may be bad or there may be a loose connection

I have a 2003 Dodge ram 1500 and when I am driving and hit a major bump the truck dies and shift into neutral and it starts right up. I also have been having trouble starting occasionally, all of this has been happening in the last three months. Do you think the that fuel pump is going bad?

It's possible, but I would definitely check the connections first to make sure nothing is loose and if you can check to make sure you have good fuel pressure.

It just stopped running and then when I tried to restart it, it acted like it was out of fuel

How did you get the wiring harness off the old one? I slid the clip out but can’t get it off

The clip is a lock, after it's out you have to push on the little lever it came out of and wiggle the plug as you try to pull it off. They can be a little sticky sometimes.
