How to replace a broken eccentric free spool spring on a Penn fishing reel

This is version 2 of an early video that I did. This is an attempt to improve the camera angle and clarity of the pictures as I show how to replace a broken free spool - eccentric spring on a Penn conventional fishing reel.

I was struggling with this same issue. And thanks to your video, I've come to find out I have the left-handed version of the spring. Of course, I would be working on a total rebuild on a Saturday night. and my parts supplier isn't open until Monday. But once again Thank you for your attention to detail and vast amount of information on these classic reels.

Boy do I hate springs! This was a fascinating and useful video for your library! Today I got lucky and got another of those blue vintage Shakespeare 2400 series reeels. This time I got the 2410. All I need to complete the set is a 2430. This concentric spring on this Penn works exactly Ike the concentric spring on the AR switch on some of my spinning reels. The worst are the dual springs on the bail lock slide on a Zebco Cardinal 6 or 7. They can drive you insane.

@@2ndChanceTackle I am extremely happy with these 2400 series Ohmori Shakespeares. This is the only spinning reel I’ve seen with a hidden compartment in the handle for an extra linkage piece for that handle to attach to the main gear of the reel. That feature is very rare in spinning reels in my experience. I know there are Heddon and Roddy Rees that have a compartment under a screw for an extra line pickup but that’s the only other spinning reel I know of with a hidden part compartment. These blue 2400 reels are the best Shakespeare spinners from the late 1970s. They are incredibly well made with beautiful gearing and two ball bearings in every model. These are the only Shakespeare reels that are easily comparable to the Daiwa 4000C and 7000C.
