Thanks for taking the time to make this informative video. I enjoyed the subtle ’s, my grandad, who couldn’t fish by any standards, outclassed my dad and me by buying a brand new Penn Delmar 285 and a brand new single taper, hollow glass, Sealey beachcaster. Most rods around the time were solid glass and the idea of a hollow rod was crazy voodoo. There was no carbon fibre at that time, but maybe Royalty and the very rich might’ve owned the first ones ever. Anyway, grandpa was constantly bird nesting the Delmar. He gave up on fishing in six weeks and gave me all his new kit, and I was an immensely proud 12 year old to own the Delmar. I stripped and reassembled it many times over, and cherished it for decades, until a mishap saw it, and my boat road dissapear over the back of my boat, to the bottom of th e sea, and was never seen again.

I'm looking forward to learning more about Penn's line of reels. Being a lefty it is hard to find many older reels that were designed for us south paws, but I love the idea of fishing with a " classic " reel from around the time of my birth in the mid 60's. Best wishes. -- den

@@everydayden5826 Those classic reels were around when true monsters still roamed the deep and didn’t falter. Tackle manufacturers have to sell more and more tackle each year- these Penn reels are over built and simple engineering that doesn’t break often and you can repair it yourself. Go ahead and pay $700 for a reel - I’d rather put that money in fuel.

@@StevenMiller-cx4rr Thank you for responding. Nope, I won't be spending that kind of money on a reel when a $100.00 reel can do the same thing and last for a long time with the amount of fishing I can do. If I have to buy a second then I'm still out only $200.00 and not 6 or 700.00 Thanks again. -- den

Hi Good show. I owned some excellent Penn spinning reels 40 years ago..Does Penn make a good baitcaster reel for bass fishing. ? Thanks. My prayers are with you. May you fully recover fully soon..

@@keithfuson7694 Penn made an attempt in the mid to late 80’s to enter the Bait Caster (Bass) market. They introduced the “Speed Shifter1000 & 2000” the idea was that you could “shift into a higher speed retrieval when there was no load. When the fish was pulling drag the reel could be shifted into the lower speed. It failed miserably! It simply didn’t work, they broke constantly and required skilled repair unlike most of the Penn line. If you goto Facebook and look up a group called “Real Penn Reels” - that’s my group and I cover this kind of stuff. I have a version of each in my collection.
