In this video I replace a broken wheel stud on the rear of my 2004 Ford F150. The procedure differs from vehicle to vehicle and they do make tools to make the job easier. This is just a diy version of the install I did and is for entertainment purposes only. Thanks for watching!

They made this a LOT harder on the back studs, from 2009-2014. The space between the flange and the backing plate for the drum brakes is much much smaller. It made getting the damaged studs out then installed harder but the worst is getting the drum parking brake parts out then reinstalled... ugh. I helped a friend replace all the studs on his left rear today (outside in the rain 😢 ).

I confused myself, the real question is how do you get the plate behind the caliper off so I can put the new bolt through? It’s easier on the front.

I didn’t have to take the plate off. At around 2:12 you can see I just slid it in. Does yours not fit?

@@JustKingAdrian I will say, that is why I cam here as well, I can't get the old lug studs out or the new lug studs in because there is not enough space.

@@kalebkulp6782 Let me guess, either it's a newer model. There is a lot less space in the 2009-2014 model years (maybe after that also). You do have to take the parking brake parts out but the studs will fit without removing the backing plate. It just takes a bit of fidgeting.

That's not anything like my truck, 202 F-150 with disc on rear. Not even close, and there's not one video that comes close, they're all drum brakes in the videos.

Ok because My 2001 Ford expedition have disc brakes having found nothing close to how to remove studs except remove of different cover smash, what Ford was thinking about

Those are rotors with an integral drum parking brake, not drum brakes.

You don't spin the studs. He used a large nut (larger than the stud) as a spacer so he could use a lug nut to tighten until the stud pulled into the flange (straight). What he did, takes a lot of torque from an impact wrench to pull the stud in but it works a charm. You can also buy a special tool to do this but I'd recommend the nut-spacer and lug nut method. One thing I'd mention is GREASE the stud threads and seat of the lug nut so you don't gall the threads.
