Thank you for showing how to turn main power off, checking to make sure power is off and how to remove and install new breaker. Basic but key information that most videos don’t show.

I needed a new breaker and could not find an electrician to do the job in my area. None worked on the weekends, and could not come out for two or more weeks to do the job. I ran across your video and it was so step by step. The video gave me the confidence I needed to do it myself. Girl power! Thank you for this informative video for I could not go another day without power in my bedroom. I have subscribed and will be sharing info about it. 🙏✊

Glad to see you spend about 3/4 of the video on the most important part - confirming the panel is dead! It's a big issue on these older panels that don't have the main disconnect means in the panel itself.

Hey man I really hope you see this early, hell even at all.. the electrician wanted to charge me $600 to replace my main but I couldn't afford it.. well 600 for the breaker, plus him having to do insurance, and the rest. Im retired army and since 2020 $$ has been tight so I went and found a breaker to fit.. it's a cutler Hamer, the main that's in is a Bryant and I couldn't find one for anything. OK so here's my thing. I've not began taking it out just yet, I've killed all the power. However my tester won't work for crap, my neighbor who does electrical some told me that after the mains off I'd be fine just don't touch any wires.top it off I only have one screw, I guess that'd go the same way right.. sorry to ask a stupid question but I survived 7 deployments and don't wanna go out over this

Thank you for the video. I have a similar panel with only a few breakers. However, one switch keeps turning off due to the load. The breaker is a single slot, can I upgrade that to a double slot or will I just have to connect items elsewhere so it does not put much load on the breaker?

What do you do if you don't have a main breaker to shut off power? The power for my house goes straight from the meter to the box with no shut off..
@ALWAYStheEIGHTIES Жыл бұрын
Are all circuits going to be the same when you buy one? Is there anything different I need to know to look for? All I know is it is a 20 (actually right where you changed out) for my kitchen. Also, I have a large switch that says "main" right above all the others in the box that can cut off everything in house. Is that the only thing I need to flip? I don't need to go looking for any others right? That's the one I would flip every time my well pump under house would go out when I had well water. Damn ants. I had to routinely sand the points and then re-prime it. Sorry. Not mechanically inclined at all.

How do I know if I can change my 15 amp breaker to a 20amp? The cable I’m running says “Essex 14-26 non metallic sheathed cable type NM-B 600v E10816A?
@nova313374 жыл бұрын
I'm not an electrician, but your clue is the 14-26 number which is the wire gauge rated from 14-26 (the larger the number, the smaller the wire and consequently the less power that can safely travel through it). #14 gauge wire is fine for 15 amps, but not for 20 amps, you would need at least #12 gauge capable wire according to safety codes. Trying to push 20 amps of power through #14 gauge wire will cause it to heat up and potentially catch fire, so you definitely want to either run a new wire or replace the breaker with one of the same rating. Hope that helps!
