Mine had the OnStar module and bracket that needed to be removed which made the job take much longer than anticipated. There are 3 10mm bolts on the OnStar module and 3 10mm bolts that hold the bracket in place. If you have a small electric ratchet impact it will help a lot. I did try to leave the OnStar module out after replacing the actuator but the car wouldn't start so I had to put it back in. Thanks for the video!

Yeah sorry about that. It’s a rhythmic thumping noise. It’ll stop making the noise when you change the controls to a different setting. This particular actuator will change when you go from outside air to recirculate. If it stops when you change the temperature dial, then it’s the temperature actuator.

How much was the actuator? Mine occasionally clicks, only on the first speed. I always thought it was the blower motor because it I can make it stop by setting the speed to max and back to 1. I replaced the resistor recently, I don't know if I've heard it since then though.
@PetesGarageandperformance
@PetesGarageandperformance 6 жыл бұрын
I don't remember how much it cost. Go to rockauto.com. They seem to have the best prices. If it is only on the first speed it might be the blower motor. Sometimes they get leaves in them. I have a video on replacing the blower motor also. Unfortunately on this vehicle you can't just take the motor out, dump the leaves and reinstall it. You have to cut it out and the replacement one comes with a bracket.

You can turn one of the dials to the position where the actuator is sitting still and clicking. It’ll stop if you hit the sweet spot. When you find which dial makes the ticking stop, that’s the one that needs replaced. It won’t hurt anything if you don’t replace it. It’s just annoying.

@PetesGarageandperformance

If you’re talking about the engine temperature, then no. The air inlet actuator is only for the cabin heating and air conditioning and will have no effect on the engine temperature. You would need to make sure the cooling system is full of coolant, fans work, the water pump is operating, head gasket isn’t blown, etc.

If it’s just that air inlet door then it’s not the end of the world. You just won’t have control over the fresh air/recirculate function. If it’s any of the other doors that break then you will lose control over them and they have a bigger effect than the air inlet does.

Adrian D. Vine I wouldn’t think the position of the door would cause the evaporator to leak. Maybe a piece of the door rubbed through the evaporator since it’s out of position? Yup, tried to change it today. Same thing. I removed all the dash stuff near the glove box to get a better look at how to remove all that you mentioned. Its hard to get to anything. i think you might even need to remove the entire dash as well. i dont feel comfortable doing all that since the airbags are right there. and now i have to bring it in. this would have been an easy fix my car was like the one in the video.

That bracket and module is for the onstar. Not all Malibu’s were equipped with it. Just remove the module from the bracket and then the bracket to gain access. There’s three bolts that hold the module to the bracket and three more that hold the bracket to the instrument panel brace. I hope this helps.

Auto Value and Canadian Tire (Canada) didn't understand the terminology of Air Inlet Actuator. Their terms were Manual Control or Blend Door Actuator. Just a heads up if someone else experiences this. Thank you for such quick replies. I am not looking forward to changing this.
@PetesGarageandperformance

Actually there are three different actuators. There’s the mode (manual control), temperature (blend), and air inlet (or recirculate). It’s really not very hard to do if you follow this video.

@@PetesGarageandperformance From what I can see is that there is an actuator directly to the left in open view. To the right are 2 others that are behind a plastic casing of some sort and have larger bolts to remove this casing. The problem I have been experiencing is a loud clicking...in summer time this happened once n while and now colder temps and it never stops now while car is running. I never had temperature control issues.

See if it stops clicking when you move the temp. Or if it’s when you move either the “mode” (face, floor, defrost), or recirculate.

You can't be just taking out the glove box I've got a 2012 Malibu took out the glove box and I can't get either one of my hands back there. I took the bottom plastic off and still can't seem to get anything past the airbox to get that one screw out the only thing I haven't tried yet is Cold Chisel and Hammer and I'm pretty much that point right now.

@@PetesGarageandperformance there is at least 1 bolt blocked by the physical module to undo the frame and one of the bolts for the module is next to that 5.5 mm bolt for the actuator but the head is on the other side of the frame. The blind side. There is no way to touch the head, or see it. Maybe you can come up straight from the bottom to get something on it, maybe I just needed hands of a child..... Once the actuator got set to vent, I just unplugged it. I am hoping it doesn't move so the windshield defrost stays working for the winter.
