I really needed this video. I've been seeing so many people "remove" the core the ghetto way (which was them only removing the lock nut so the small pin can move freely into the tube) to inject sealant in, but that wasn't "professional" enough for me. This is the proper, and best way. Thanks!

Mark, Nice simple video and great info on replacing a presta valve. Had watched a different video that had indicated if the presta valve was bent , the entire tube needed to be replaced., which didn't make sense to me. So well done!
@TheMarkList2 жыл бұрын
Justin, it depends on your tube and/or if you're running tubeless. A new core is less than a buck and super easy to replace. Some tubes you can replace it. Just be careful not to twist too hard as to damage the tube - if it is indeed removable. I've been running tubeless on my gravel, enduro and dh bike and haven't used a tube in ages... so I'd have to actually grab a tube to check and confirm it's doable! Hopefully it is!

Hey cool video. I’ve got a presta valve core that is removed but the air won’t come out of tire. I can’t put air into tire with core installed either. Is there something that is in the tire to keep air from coming out when removed? And when I put core in the air won’t go into tire. Which is why I removed the core in first place. I’ve never had this happen before.

While unscrewing my presta pump adaptor the valve core blew out at high pressure. Given the tight fit of the adaptor that you screw on what keeps it from acting as a valve core wrench and loosening the valve core each time? It freaked me out blowing out at 85psi and both the stem and my adaptor went flying in the backyard. Shouldn’t the thread go the opposite direction to avoid this?
@TheMarkList Жыл бұрын
If you're using an adapter for your pump to fit, don't screw it on so tight. Just snug. The valve core should be nice and tight so as not to accidentally unscrew.. Like I think happened with you.

Reason tells me a bent presta valve stem can probably be coaxed into being straight again, perhaps not perfect but certainly usable. If you have a balky or leaky non-removable core -- and many cores are non-removable -- it might make sense to try straightening it before tossing the whole tube. Care must be taken, of course, because it's made of brass, a very soft metal that work hardens and becomes brittle. It if breaks off, you're replacing it for sure.

So most mountain bike tires run a tubeless setup as do most of the newer road bikes/gravel bike wheels and tires. A new valve core is about a dollar and takes 30 seconds to change. A tube is more expensive, heavier and takes longer to install and change. Also, you're more likely to get a pinch flat with a tube then with a tubeless set up. A new tube certainly is an option, but with most modern bikes going to a tubeless setup, it's bit antiquated to replace it with a new tube.
