Did your clutch cable snap or otherwise start feeling squishy? In this how-to video we replace it in a 1st Gen Dodge Neon, though the procedure is largely the same for most modern passenger cars.

The first one you received, the Pioneer Brand cable, It actually works fantastic. The problem was, you did not adjust the self adjusting mechanism down, to allow it to fit correctly. You honestly had me super worried, seeing this video, and at that time the Pioneer Clutch cable was already on its way to me. It was not difficult to install, with being adjusted down and using a breaker bar to disengage the clutch at the fork, it all went together in about 25-30 minutes! Otherwise, your video was very informative and helpful in every other way. Thank you!

Interesting. I adjusted (lengthened) it for the Neon and it still didn't fit-- was your car a Neon as well? Congrats on getting it to fit, regardless.

@@MrLarryQ I agree with you. I recently tried the Pioneer cable and it's a no-go with a First-Gen Neon. If you need a "breaker bar" to install it then it's not the cable you want to use. In my opinion, if the adjuster would adjust another inch shorter, meaning that the cable case when adjusted to its shortest, it would likely fit. In the end, I modded the broken stock cable with an adjuster at the firewall. I needed to cut away about 3/4 of the spring to relieve some tension at the TO bearing.

@@markl.5605 I did everything I could to get the Pioneer cable to fit, adjusted the screw more times than I could count. Last thing I wanted was to return it and get the more expensive factory / Mopar one, but that's what I had to do. Caveat Emptor.

You can do it. My advice, summed up-- get as close to a factory / OEM cable as you can and other than crawling under the dashboard, upside down, it's not that hard.

Does cable need to be greased ? Thanks
@larryquantz195 Жыл бұрын
No, you shouldn't need to grease anything, especially if it's a factory replacement.
