Replaced mine following your steps almost to a tee. Will note for any fellas out there putting in a NPC clutch, the manual states 178nm on the flywheel bolts and 39nm of flywheel pressure plate bolts along with the new thrust bearing not needing the clip. Cheers fellas great tutorial 👍

Great video, Just had my clutch done by some big brand company, got it back with massive rattle coming from my gearbox, obviously trust bearing. question. is it common practice to change trust bearing while changing clutch.......also my clutch was engaging rite on floor, so thanks for the adjustment tips.....Great video
@foordoffroad8915 Жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, yeah it 100% should be replaced along with the clutch especially at a professional workshop Clutch kits come with a new thrust bearing so I can’t see a reason not to replace it Unless it was a warranty job and only the clutch itself is covered

Thanks, the tool is more to pull it out it’s called a spigot bearing puller and just tap the new bearing in with a hammer just hitting on the race not the actual bearing

Great Video mate. A mate got a mechanic to change his, but after the clutch was replaced it would not engage 4wd anymore. Was working before going into shop. Do you know why this would happen?
@foordoffroad89153 жыл бұрын
Probably didn’t line the 4wd shifter up properly when they put it back into the box
@brendoncox14493 жыл бұрын
@@foordoffroad8915 Hi mate, thanks heaps, yes that was the problem the shifter was completely out of the slot. We had to replace bush as they stuffed it. I have another issue if you could help me with please. In front of the gearbox shift housing there is a pipe on a 90 about 3/8 size that faces the passenger side of car. It looks as though it would have a hose on it or something. It has nothing attached and I can't find a picture of the same gearbox to see where it goes. I found the 2 little side breathers had nothing connected as well. The mechanic that did the clutch has left all this off as well.
@foordoffroad89153 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you need a new mechanic mate, they will be the gearbox breathers only really useful if your going through deep water offroad but still they should be connected, I’d suggest getting a aftermarket breather kit and doing the front and rear diff breathers too
@brendoncox14493 жыл бұрын
@@foordoffroad8915 Thanks heaps mate. I thought it might be another breather. I will connect everything back up. Yeah I told my mate never to use that mechanic again. Thanks heaps mate. Your video's are awesome and very informative.

me again me . how good are you on charging issues .got a hilux 84 LN65 2L engine . got a 3 pin black plug (F,N are parallel and the top one is E (external regulator) going into the top of the alternator . charge light is still on when running (where's the diode,camp on that circuit so i can test it ) that's charging up to 17 volts . with the charge light still on . how do i test my regulator to see if it's cactus . (solid state) .seems like the field is running flatout out (12volts going through the brushes) to put that voltage out . or can you point me in the right direction to get the knowledge i need .

Do you need to worry about bleeding any fluids if doing a straight clutch replacement? I've seen alot of things saying that it's worth draining the clutch fluid and replacing the slave cylinder. But is that necessary?

You can if you want but don’t have to on the Hilux

Hi mate, going to do mine this week. at 4:23 where you lower the gearbox with top bolts of bell housing still attached to get access to the cables. Does that not bend or break anything at the engine side as it's still attached?
@foordoffroad89152 жыл бұрын
Nope it just leans the engine back a bit to help get the top bolts, on older cars you need to keep and eye on the fan hitting the radiator but on a Hilux there is plenty of room

hi mate, how many inches is the size of this clutch ?
@billyliddy58333 жыл бұрын
Thanks for showing us that. Can you expect a few smells when using low range for the first time? I had mine changed and was 4wheeling up a hill and my ute had a moderate smell that i thought was clutch smell.
@foordoffroad89153 жыл бұрын
A clutch should bed in straight away unless your making huge power so shouldn’t get any smell from a Hilux However if it was going to then it would happen in 4low trying to supply max torque to all 4 wheels, either that or the pedal isn’t adjusted quite right and it’s holding the clutch slightly on

Mine does exactly the same. Annoying … and it hasn’t been through and crossings etc. I’ve just done a clutch in my sons car and I’ve noticed that supplied bearing are not Japanese items anymore. Cheap unbranded stuff could be the cause of early failures
