_Usually_ less mess, but harder to get a good seal sometimes, especially if the cloth is too thick. Remember that it has to fit between the inside of the bushing and the outside of your pushing tool without too much friction, or you'll just wedge it all inside the bushing - but without too much extra room or it just won't work. But it's an option if you don't have bread handy. :-)

One super important thing to note for many modern vehicles, if there is a tone wheel for the crank position signal on the flywheel you MUST clock the flywheel properly or the car will NOT start. Some other tips to supplement this great video: 1. Even with the alignment tool, if it’s a plastic one, the clutch disc will likely sag a little. So before you tighten the pressure plate bolts, make sure the alignment tool is centered in the pilot bearing and level. 2. Some transmissions will have a small amount of play at the input shaft so do some research before buying a new tranny if yours has end play. 3. Another trick to lining up the input shaft to the splines, is manipulating the gear levers and put it in gear then rotate the rear tailshaft until it lines up and fits in. This causes the input shaft to rotate. Then put it back into neutral as you push it in. 4. Don’t hammer in bearing pilot bushings!

ChrisFix your videos are beyond professional T.V. grade quality. I can't believe how much time and effort you put into making them. They are TOP notch!! Do you think you could start adding in a ROUGH estimated time needed for the jobs (ex. 4-6hrs, 1 day, a whole weekend, etc)?
@Buc_Stops_Here5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree the only thing missing is the time spent. Considering this took two separate videos I am guessing at least 16 hours or two days. It is a huge job and expensive if someone else does it for a reason. Amazing job.

@@chrisfix No, thank you! I am a bit of an amateur car enthusiast who just moved to another country so there's not many people I can ask for assistance around here. When I need to do some repairs on my vehicles, I ALWAYS first come to your channel as it us by far the best (in quality and content). You have saved me heaps of time, money and frustration. Luckily I do have an extra vehicle so time isn't that much of an issue but think it will be extremely valuable to have a rough idea of time so my wife don't get pissy when I tell her it's a 30min job and then only emerging from the garage after many days? Weeks? Months? Oh shit, it's been 4.5 months, gotta go, cheers! And thank you!

Tyler Rough estimates don’t really work well. I’ve done work that was estimated to take the whole day in half that and other times where it was supposed to take an hour or two takes half a day. It’s all up in the air really and for some reason customers get frustrated when it’s out of your control. Shit sucks.

22:52 "We want the end of the alignment tool to go all the way into the pilot bearing and that will hold the clutch in the middle for us." The first solo clutch job I did was on a lift. I didn't have a cart or table so my pressure plate was on the floor by my feet. I installed the clutch plate with the alignment tool, picked up the pressure plate from the floor and as I stood back up the falling clutch plate struck the bridge of my nose while on its way to the floor, where it was chipped against the concrete. Live and learn! As always, thank you for sharing and stay safe!

Chris does mention a lot of stuff throughout this video and the other clutch video that I just had to write them all down since I was lacking in some tools and all the fluids, and also found myself picking up a few more things on top of that.
