Thank you so much for this wonderful, helpful video. My crank mechanism slackened and then failed completely and I discovered that the cord inside was badly frayed and had snapped. I managed to do a repair on the cord, but it was your video that had showed me how to deconstruct and reconstruct the crank handle and gave me the confidence to tackle the repair. Thanks for the video! I was able to fix my umbrella, better than new after 5 years. The only difference with mine was the housing around the handle and crank mechanism. The two halves were not held together by four screws. Instead, there were two plastic collars of the same colour, one slipped on the top halves, the other one slipped on the bottom, both holding the halves tightly together. A small knife worked around each collar will slide each off. Then you can find all the parts that fell off the mechanism like I did. They had just backed off completely making me think the mechanism was broken. I just had to put it all back together by following the video. I think the lock washer with the two tabs wasn't bent enough to prevent the nut from falling out with the rest of the parts. At first, I reached for the Dremel thinking that my handle and crank mechanism were glued together, so I'm glad I didn't f**ck that up! While you're there see if the nut is still in the tilt head mechanism. Mine had disappeared. I found a metric one that fit from one of these assorted metric boxes you can get. Thanks!

Do you have instructions on how to replace a broken crank axle on an offset umbrella? I have one, not one of yours, and the crank axle just broke and half of it came out with the handle. Your video is about as close as I've come to finding something to help me try to figure this out. Are the crank axles universal? Where would I find a replacement crank axle? It is for a Royal Garden (Lowe's) umbrella that the manufacturer no longer supports, customer service could not help me. Would appreciate any help/advice so I don't have to send this to the landfill, as I just put a new cover on it last year. Thanks.

Had the same thing happen 2 days ago. The part is no longer available as the umbrella was discontinued. Don't want to give up as the umbrella is only 3 years old and was expensive. Home Depot and Lowes offer no hope for a repair. My husband can repair just about anything and he is stymied. Anyone...please? Thank you!

What do you do if the crank has no screw holes?

Wrong assembly instructions. At 1.04 you show one slotted washer on each side of the cog. At 2.50 two slotted washers are on top with one underneath the cog!!! That is 3 slotted washers.!!!

Hey Sunlite there are 3 Slotted Washers, I think you are not counting the slotted washer with tabs on the side. So the order which they should be is as follows from top to bottom. Slotted Washer with the 2 tabs, Flat Slotted Washer after the cog, the final slotted washer. Please look at frame 0:53 and you will see all 3 Washers.
