The only mistake you made in my opinion is not replacing both heads when you found the problem to be with the valves. It looks like you still had a miss at idle at the end of your video and to fix you will need to repeat the whole procedure again. The Vulcan motors are known for soft valve/head issue's

I have a Ford Ranger 1993 v6 3.0L 4x4 XLT, does this engine requires a specific head gasket? I read that a RWD needs a left and right head gasket, and a FWD it does not matter which way is installed, meaning the two smaller coolant slots on both ends are opened. Is this accurate? Any information is appreciated. Thank you

@@tyler7937so odd. Wonder what people did before KZbin existed? Ignorant comment. Manuals are points of reference as well as specifications. The ranger uses multiple different engine and ignition types. Just because “your buddy” has a 4.0 doesn’t mean his specs are the same for my 3.0.

Do I have to rotate the crank in order to get tdc for each pushrod, rocker and lifter? After that torque them down?
@randomtallguyvlogs67563 жыл бұрын
That's not necessary, the engine will stay in time no matter what we do on top since we’re not messing with the crankshaft or camshaft at all. The lifters will remain in their position during the whole repair.

I couldn’t really tell to much but is it needed to remove the push rods/rocker arms if your just replacing the upper and lower intake manifold gaskets? Also how did you clean the fuel injectors? I don’t want to blow a bunch of money on new ones since mine work fine but figure I may as well clean them. Thank you so much for this video because I have the same exact 01 Ranger! I’m trying to do a bunch of gaskets and maintenance before going on an 8 hour trip!
@randomtallguyvlogs67562 жыл бұрын
Yes if I remember correctly you must remove the push rods to lift the intake manifold out. As for the fuel injectors, spray some light carb cleaner into them to clean them, there are a lot of videos on KZbin on how to clean those.

I am fairly certain you Installed the fulcrum bolts and push rods wrong. After you install the rocker arm fulcrum bolt and pushrod you then turn the crankshaft until the lifter is all the way down then tighten the fulcrum bolt to the torque listed in the chapter's specification in two stages. You cant just instal the rods without moving the lifters that they sit in.

@randomtallguyvlogs67562 жыл бұрын
Yea snapped bolts are the worst, you can try drilling the center of the bolt and then use a bolt extractor. The most important thing is to not drill into the threads. If there’s enough bolt sticking out then you might be able to use like vice grips to unscrew it.

Is that a brass wire brush you are using with a drill to clean your manifold and head? Is brass okay to use like that? Brass is softer than steel which is what the head is made from I think...but what about the intake as well?
@randomtallguyvlogs67562 жыл бұрын
Yes, it’s a soft brass wire brush. You can use it to clean up any surface, just never use it on the head surface where the head meets the engine block. Same with the engine block itself. any little deep mark can ruin it. In the video, I cleaned off the protective coating on the intake and exhaust inlets but that’s it. Never use it on the side where the head meets the engine.

Got an 02 with 127000 miles. 50 psi compression in one of my cylinders. Any suggestions?
@randomtallguyvlogs67566 ай бұрын
It could be many things like head gasket leaks, valves not sealing, or worn piston rings. You can add oil into the cylinder through the spark plug hole and retest. If it is still 50 psi then it could be the valves or head gasket.
